Something very strange was happening to Romanadvoratrelundar. She found herself feeling jealous.

Jealous of the Doctor's ever-growing family. Jealous of the various romantic relationships that various Time Lords were forming, when things like that weren't supposed to happen and she remained resolutely single.

Oh, she wasn't unhappy. Considering this life was tied to one time and one planet, it was a very good life. And she wasn't lonely, either. Not entirely. She supposed that there were different kinds of loneliness, and wondered why this kind had never touched her before.

In order to distract herself from such miserable - or, rather, confusing - thoughts, she abandoned her office and went for a walk around the town.

Ford was a helpless wanderer - and he had made up in his mind that Arthur disappeared with Trillian to some other galaxy to make lovey dovey faces at each other.. or run for their lives with Zaphod trailing behind flailing like a mad man. It was the same either way really.

His days were uneventful and average; human. And yet after all his years on earth somethings he just didn't understand. Things like mixing straws, and Sunday mornings, and the weather forecast of "freezing rain." Freezing rain was like an unsure way of saying snow. And why not call hail, ice? But that was a colmpletely different arguement.

He normally wasn't a big fan of snow but it was perfect packing snow in the park; some local high schoolers thought so too as they'd set up a snowball fight. Unable to pass up what seemed like a fun time, he participated in the snowball fight for what seemed like ten minutes when it'd actually been a good hour or so.

Upon clearing his face of the snow that was just thrown at him with his scarf, he saw a familiar figure walking. Rather than calling out a greeting he bent down and scooped up some snow, packing it between cupped hands. Ford didn't want to hit her, he wouldn't dream of it actually - that and he was pretty sure he could still get executed on some planet for throwing a snowball at Madame President Romanadvoratrelundar, despite Gallifrey being gone.

Instead he lopped the snowball high in the air, watching it soar lazily until it landed a few feet short and infront of her walking path.

Romana hadn't actually been paying attention to the snowball warfare occurring only a few metres away, and, consequently, was taken completely by surprise when a snowball soared towards her and landed at her feet.

She blinked, wondering who would try and hit her (or not hit, as the case may be). Then turned her head and saw who had thrown it, and was considerably less surprised.

With a expression of (almost) utmost seriousness, she said: "I do hope you weren't trying to hit me."

At seeing her expression, his smile instantly faded to a rather guilty look. "Not at all, Romana. I wouldn't dare.. I'm terribly sorry," he said as he took off his hat and bowed his head a little.

Ford wished he'd brought the Guide along to consult it on such a situation like this and how to either fix it or get out of it in one piece. Not that he thought Romana was violent or anything of the sort.

The sudden look of guilt was almost enough to make Romana burst out laughing, but she didn't. Quite daintily, she bent down and picked up a handful of the powdery snow and chucked it at Ford. She had quite a decent aim.

Course he didn't notice Romana bend down and take up some snow, he was too busy staring at his feet and wondering about other ways in which he could apologize to her. That is til he felt the cool burst at the top of his head as he was hit with the snowball.

Speechless, Ford quickly brushed the snow from his hair and looked up at Romana. "I suppose I deserved that," he said after a moment of consideration, putting on his hat one more.

Romana grinned at him. A very un-presidential grin, too.

"Yes, you did," she said, stooping to make another one, which she held in her hand, apparently prepared to throw it if and when it became necessary.

Ford watched her carefully, trying to decide whether or not he liked that grin she had. "Though I only threw one.." he said with suspicion as she made another snowball.

He leant down and gathered up some more snow, making one for himself. "I'm only arming myself because you have," he said in a reasonable tone, hiding a smirk.

"And so have I," said Romana with a genial smirk, "For now. I believe we have reached a sort of stalemate."

"I feel I should warn you," she added, "I am not accustomed to losing."

"Oh I should hope so," he said with his smirk tugging at the corners of his lips. Though he hoped it wasn't for too long as his hand would get terribly cold and he didn't have his towel.

He raised a brow at her curiously. "Then I should warn you I'm not accustomed to getting pelted with snowballs, so please do forgive me if I whine," he retorted with a small chuckle.

"I suppose a diplomatic solution is out of the question?" she asked, tossing the snowball from hand to hand and then, when she hoped he wasn't prepared for it, tossing it - admittedly rather lightly - at Ford.

"Most likely," he said, looking directly at her rather than watching the snowball. Armed or not, he'd still be polite.

He was needless to say, shocked, when the snowball hit his chest. For the sake of not wanting to hit her, he fell backwards into the snow lifelessly. Ford rested his hand over the left side of his chest and groaned gently, nevermind that his heart was actually on his right side.

Although she knew he couldn't be seriously hurt - not by a snowball! - Romana felt it would only be polite to go and check.

She knelt down beside him, in the horrible slushy snow the covered the pavement. Then, because she wasn't sure what else to do, she tapped him on the shoulder.

Ford lay there in a daze, his one hand on his chest while his other lay lazily in the snow. He took his best acting skills, which weren't half bad mind you - he did pretend to be an out of work actor for 15 years - to keep a straight face. "I feel cold," he whispered, knowing well enough it was becaus he was laying partially on pavment and partially in snow. Quickly though, he gathered some loose snow with his free hand as he spoke.

Then he looked at Romana with a broad smile and softly tossed the snow at her.

The Doctor was hurrying his way back towards the campus to get home, trying not to drop the freezing paper bag filled with different flavored tubs of ice cream, when he saw Romana.

For the sack of keeping what little dignity he had left, he slowed to a stroll and headed over to her. "There's my best man! Stayin' away from the pubs?" He was sure Rose could wait a little while longer for the ice cream while he caught up with Romana.. Well, on second thought she probably couldn't wait but hopefully Daisy or Astrid were keeping her occupied.

Romana smiled at the Doctor, then raised an eyebrow when she saw the bag of ice cream.

"You aren't intending to eat all that, are you Doctor?" she asked, "And yes, I am staying well away. I believe I've learned my lesson there..."

He glanced down at the bag before looking back up at Romana with wide eyes. "Oh no nonono no," he said quickly, shaking his head. "Rose and Daisy would murder me, over and over.."

"Good; I think we both learned a valuable lesson there.." he said thoughtfully. "Pacing yourself is very important," he added after a beat. "How are you, my Romana.." Oh he'd wanted to say 'Rommy' so bad but he'd already ticked off two people today, his chances of surviving ticking off a third were slim.

"Oh good," she said with a smirk. "And I'm quite well, thank you. I hear congratulations are in order? Apparently you are an uncle as well as a father?"

She hoped he already knew this. Although she was fine teasing him about the news, breaking it to him was something else entirely.

The Doctor hesitated a moment, unsure of what to say. "The titles keep being added on, it's ridiculous.. And alright, maybe it's sort of nice because there's a slimmer chance I'd end up completely alone, atleast for a bit, but it's still all overwhelming.."

"Uncle Doctor.. Uncle Theta.." he cringed, not liking either. He then looked at Romana like a deer would gaze at oncoming headlights. "Then, then I'd be.. Blimey I don't know if that'd be a good thing or bad thing. I mean obviously good because I'd see them again but there's that whole bit about destroyin Gallifrey that might not get on well with them.." Especially his father, he had always respected him and his tendency to disagree with the council.. the Doctor sometimes wondered what they'd think of him now.

He snapped out of his little thoughtful daze and quirked a brow at her. "What about you? Who do you have to worry about popping up, hm? A crazy sister? Easily jealous ex-boyfriend?" he asked teasingly.

"I am an only child, Doctor," she said with a smile, "And very much lacking in the 'jealous ex' area. Thankfully. That would be terribly awkward."

"Although," she admitted, "I do suppose my parents could..."

She shuddered. Even Narvin would be better!

He tried to contain his smirk but found himself failing miserably. "But very amusing... Atleast to me." Hey, he had it happen already, he had every right to find amusement in other people's dismay.

"Ohh, I never met your parents," he said, sounding a little disappointed. "Kind of wish I had.." he added before pondering on what her parents might've been like.

"It's probably best that you don't," she laughed, "They don't like you very much. They blame you for all the strange, radical ideas I had when I returned to Gallifrey and became President."

"Do you remember what I was like when we first met, Doctor?" she asked, with an even wider smile. Surely he must. She'd been severe and uptight (well...even more uptight), and had even looked down on him as her academic inferior. "My parents are just like that. Only far worse."

She used are since time was relative both here and elsewhere, at least for a Time Lord.

The Doctor looked shocked and yet still managed to pout somewhat; like he couldn't believe someone had just stolen his puppy.. or something equally dramatic. "Why don't any parents like me?" he whispered faintly, more so to himself.

"Course I remember.." he said cautiously. "You were so proper I thought you were going to strangle me with my own scarf after two minutes.. That and your Looks?" he shivered the best he could, what with the bag in his arms "I honestly suspected you went and got that operation for laser beams.." He was kidding; partially.

His jaw dropped in amazement and a little bit of confusion. "Worse?" he asked in genuine disbelief. "Oh bollocks I wouldn't make it past a hello.."

"They had to blame someone, Doctor," she said with a laugh, "I used to be such a good Time Lady.

"Although," she added, "In fairness, they don't like Leela or Braxiatel either. They don't like anyone very much."

She glared at him, in a look very reminiscent of her first incarnation. "What exactly was wrong with my looks? And I did come close to strangling you. You were infuriating!"
