Kalli had been planning it since their second "date". She knew Valentine's Day was a big deal and she wanted to use it to try and impress Romana. Perhaps the Time Lady would appreciate her advances, perhaps not but she couldn't sit idly by and let another pass without at least trying. So she'd purchased a necklace and a card, leaving them on Romana's desk, giving her the option to meet at the park by the swings. An hour before the time Romana was supposed to show up, Kalli started preparing things. Dante was taught to sit by the swings and not pull off the bright pink bow around her neck, nor the heart antennas on her head. The dog sat by the swing and a little ways off in a small clearing Kalli had set out a big soft blanket.

On it was a picnic basket with all sorts of pastries, sandwiches and there was a bottle of wine in a bucket filled with ice with two glasses beside it. There were gorgeous battery powered lanterns close by to illuminate the blanket just enough and to set a romantic tone.

Oh, she dearly hoped everything would work out. Romana would see Dante, Dante would lead her to Kalli and then Kalli would present a bouquet of silky red roses and a box of chocolates.

She was tittering with excitement.

To say Romana was surprised to receive a Valentine's card was a bit of an understatement. It was a pleasant surprise, of course. Probably. She just couldn't think who would want to send this, although she did know who she would want it to be.

The Doctor had been rather unhelpful when she'd asked him for advice, so in the end she took matters into her own hands and headed to the park a few minutes before the appointed time.

If this was a practical joke, the perpetrator was going to find them stranded in the Mesozoic era and fed to a particularly nasty dinosaur.

She'd been half-expecting the park to be empty. She certainly wasn't expecting to find Dante. With a bow on.

	Dante barked and stood, tail wagging as she padded over to Romana and whined, nuzzling at her hand before licking it. The antenna atop her head were bobbling adorable. Barking again she turned and padded forward a few paces, trying to get Romana to follow her. Dante's tail was wagging madly, as if she knew what was going to happen. 	Dante barked again as she was spoken to, ears flickering as the antennae was hit. Padding past some trees she stopped at the edge of the clearing. Kalli was standing near the blanket, a slight red color tinting her cheeks as she glanced over at Romana. She hoped this was okay. She hoped it would go well. "Happy Valentine's Day?" 	"You did all this?" Romana gasped, stopping dead in her tracks. She'd guessed the culprit - if that was an appropriate word - when she'd seen Dante, but that didn't make the surprise any less palpable. "I'm not that cruel. She did get something out of it!" Kalli laughed and pulled a bone out of the basket, offering it up to Dante. The canine took it and laid down on the blanket, happily going to town on it with little growls and whines.

There was a moment of quiet as Kalli pulled the bottle of wine out of the bucket and then grabbed up the two wine glasses. Pouring some wine into both, she set the bottle aside and offered one glass to Romana. "I hope you like wine."

	"I do," said Romana, remember her first experiences with alcohol, only a few months earlier. Her nose wrinkled automatically. 	"I have no desire to repeat the experience," she said, "And I have learned that letting the Doctor buy me cocktails is not a good idea. I don't think we're allowed to go back to that bar again..." 	"It looks perfect to me," Romana assured her, helping herself to a chip. She then gave up trying to resist the temptation, and delicately lifted the antennae off Dante. 	Romana was, in all honestly, a little surprised too, but she was by now getting used to the fact that she acted a little oddly around Kalli. Perhaps next she'd manage to find out why. "Beautiful," she said warmly, smiling. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

	Romana, if she'd been thinking at all, would have thought that both her hearts had stopped beating. She should, really, have been expecting this. The gift, the card, the romantic meal. But, for all her intelligence, Romana could be very slow indeed. When her mind managed to catch up with events, she returned the kiss, albeit rather nervously. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

	Kalli was just glad Romana hadn't pulled back and slapped her or anything. A hand moved up to rest on Romana's cheek as she gently cupped it and then deepened the kiss a little, her tongue sliding along the other woman's lower lip. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

Romana automatically echoed Kalli's movements, helping herself to some of the chips too. It was somewhat of a relief to learn that she was nervous too.

She couldn't prevent herself from laughing at the comment. "Yes," she said with a nod, "And I'm glad to hear it. I...I like you, too."

There, she'd said it. It sounded a little juvenile, and very strange on her tongue, but it made a great deal of sense. Everything suddenly made a great deal of sense, now she was able to look back on it in hindsight.

	Romana flushed pleasantly pink at that, though she was a little thrown by the 'but'. But what, exactly? For now, however, she was content to push aside her momentary confusion, and herself to another handful of chips. She wasn't going to let herself spoil this by...by being herself, actually. 	Kalli shifted a little bit and glanced at Romana. "I never explained..fully about the original you I knew, did I." She knew she hadn't and that was making her a little uncomfortable. But Romana deserved to know and be able to ask questions, didn't she? (Reply to this) (Parent)
