Who: Tosh, tagging Owen
What: Breakfast in bed?
When: Early morning
Where: Owen's place.
Rating: TBA

Tosh had pondered long and hard about what to do for Owen for Valentine's day. He wasn't the flowers-and-chocolates sort of person, and with all the strangeness lately it seemed that finding time for anything, flowers-and-chocolates or otherwise, would be almost impossible.

In the end, she settled for breakfast in bed. He had to eat, after all, regardless of what day it was.

So, with terrible care, she prepared a tray laden with every conceivable breakfast item (just in case), and tiptoed into the room.

Owen was only half asleep as Tosh tiptoed into the room. At first he thought it might've been Lily, but upon further thought -- which really just meant a lack of any loud noises and things being thrown at him -- realized it wasn't. He made a quizzical noise as he sat up.

What? Owen wasn't an early morning person.

"I made you breakfast," she explained, a little sheepishly. He probably didn't realise it was Valentine's day. Hopefully he'd appreciate the gesture either way.

"Mm." He smiled sleepily. "Food and a pretty girl. How could it get any better?"

Even half asleep, he was still a flirt.

Tosh grinned back shyly, setting the tray down on the bedside table.

"I'm sorry to wake you up," she said apologetically, "But it is rather late. Later than most people sleep."

"Yeah, well, I'm not most people," he retorted, making a face at her -- and then smiling again.

"I know," she assured him, with the affectionate smile she always gave him when it struck her exactly how lucky she was to have her dreams come true and him beside her (which was quite often). "Do you want your breakfast, or not?"

"When was the last time you saw me turn down food?" he countered.

"I don't think that has ever happened," she returned, handing him his coffee mug. "But today might be a day for miracles."

"Miracles, perhaps, but not ones that involve me turning away food," he said, smiling faintly as he took a sip of his coffee.

"What other sorts of miracles, then?" she asked, grinning at him and moving out of the way so he could get at the rest of the tray. She was behaving very dutifully, and hoped he wouldn't think it was going to be a regular occurrence.

"Well, me not inhaling the lot of this, for starters," he said, gesturing to the rest of the tray.

"Nice to know my efforts are appreciated," said Tosh, with only partial mock-exasperation. She moved round to sit next to him on the other side of the bed.

"Oh, don't worry, your efforts are quite appreciated." He grinned. "I'm just going to be civilized about the consumption of said efforts."

Tosh smiled at him, rather glad she hadn't gone out and bought a card or something. He'd never have noticed, and it would have been rather embarrassing for all concerned.

"I know what day it is," he said, taking another sip of his coffee. "I'm sorry I haven't gotten you anything, but between the clinic and helping Jack and Ianto get the new office set up, it's been crazy. Not to mention this whole thing with Suzie."

He leaned over, careful not to knock anything off the tray, and kissed her cheek. "But after we get Carolina back, you and I are going to do something special. I promise."

"Oh, I don't care," she assured him softly, "With everything that's going on, just a few minutes with you all to myself is a blessing. I'm not expecting anything else. I want everything back to normal just as much as you do. And it will happen, eventually."

And would be followed by the next thing, and the next. Such was there lives. It didn't both Tosh as much as it had once.

"I know, but we should still do something," he said, falling silent for a moment as he scarfed down one of the slices of toast. "If we can ever carve out even a couple hours of quiet, that is." He grinned. "It's a miracle we've even gotten this much -- Lily's usually up at unholy hours making all kinds of racket around here. Surprised she's not up yet. Wait, never mind, she's at school."

He shook his head and grinned again. "Bet you never thought I'd be dealing with parenting shite, eh?"

"I never thought you'd be dealing with it well," she corrected. "You've been wonderful."

She kissed him on the cheek, again, just because it seemed necessary.

"Of course, it helps that she's a fairly decent kid and that I've got you to smack me down when I start flailing too much." He smiled warmly at Tosh. "And I'm glad the two of you get along."

"Oh, of course," said Tosh genially. No point denying it. "And so am I. She's lovely."

It didn't completely curb her occasional bouts of jealousy, but it helped. She didn't know how she'd handle her own child, anyway. Perhaps she wouldn't be a good mother. Perhaps it was best this way.

"Plus, hey. She's practice for if you and I ever have a kid." There was Owen and his almost creepy sense of timing. "We can screw her up and not worry about screwing our kid up."

Tosh looked up sharply at that, taken completely by surprise. She'd never expected to hear something like that coming from Owen!

Her surprise was self-evident.

"You...you think about things like that?"

Tosh stared at him in astonishment for a moment, before beaming at him in utter delight. Unable to help herself, she wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him, hard.

Owen whimpered in surprise but was quite content to return the kiss; after all, snogging the girlfriend -- or in this case, getting snogged by her -- was never a bad thing.
