Who: Tosh and Lily
What: Coffee
When: Early afternoon
Where: A little cafe, just outside the campus

Tosh couldn't quite believe she was doing this. Rather than tracking down Owen, who was probably half-conscious in a bar somewhere, she was going to meet his future daughter - or something like that, anyway - for coffee.

She must have gone mad. But it seemed like that right thing to do. Lily seemed nice, and was understandably a little scared and confused by everything. Owen was a big boy, and could probably take care of himself for a few hours longer. Tosh didn't want to leave Lily until she was sure that Owen's daughter took after her father in that respect.

She bought herself coffee and retreated to a corner table, wondering how long it would be before Lily arrived. It had been her idea, so surely she would...

Tosh wasn't the only one doubting their sanity; as Lily walked into the coffee shop, she was pretty sure that she'd taken temporary leave of her senses. But Tosh was important to her father, even if this wasn't quite the version of Owen that she knew, so she supposed she owed it to him to at least try and get to know the woman. Going above and beyond, really, since Owen didn't seem to want to know her. But that was being a bit harsh, she acknowledged as she looked around for Tosh. She couldn't blame her father for reacting the way he was.

There was no mistaking Lily when she did arrive. There was definitely something of her father there, though Tosh couldn't pinpoint exactly what, even as she stood up and hurried over to greet her.

"Lily? I'm Toshiko."

She started to extend a hand, then paused. Was that an appropriate greeting?

It might not have been an appropriate greeting -- Lily wasn't entirely sure, either -- but growing up Pete Tyler's granddaughter had put her in a position to know manners and need them on an almost-daily basis. And this greeting gave her something to fall back on; she shook Tosh's hand with a smile.

"Wow, good to know Owen consistently goes for beautiful women no matter what universe it is," she said with a grin.

That comment made Toshiko blush rather furiously, but she kept herself in check, just. She blamed the Harper genetics for comments like that, no matter how unscientific that theory was.

"It's nice to meet you properly at last," she said. "Shell we sit down?"

"Oh, definitely." Lily grinned. "And it's nice to meet you properly, too. Much better than just knowing you exist." Because honestly, yeah, it was more than a little weird knowing that this version of her father wasn't with her mother. Not bad, just not something easy to handle right away.

"Did you know a version of me in your world?" she asked, more out of curiosity than anything else. Owen might be having some difficultly with it, but Tosh had already decided she was more than capable of making the distinction between different people and different universes.

"What would you like?" she added, handing over the menu card.

"Kind of," Lily said, studying the menu card. "I mean, there's a version of you there, but I didn't know her too well. She's a bit more of an out in the field sort than you are, I think, but as far as I know you're not that different."

She looked up and grinned. "Of course, I spent most of my time in the infirmary when I wasn't with my assorted tutors -- Owen would've had a shitfit if I'd ever expressed interest in going out in the field."

"I'm generally happier behind a computer," she agreed. Definitely not a field sort.

She tried to imagine a protective Owen, managed it, and smiled. "This Owen will come round, you know. He's just in shock."

"I am sorry for being such a shock to him." She managed a slight laugh. "I'm just used to having my family -- we're a pretty close-knit bunch."

Lily grinned. "Plus I'm a total daddy's girl. Which I'm sure this Owen is going to positively hate."

"Don't worry about it," she assured Lily. Or attempted to assure her, anyway. The sentiment was there. "I can't imagine Owen - any Owen - being like that. I always assumed there would be some differences, but the essentials would remain the same."

"We'll just have to wait and see, I guess." Lily smiled slightly, finally figuring out what she wanted off the menu card.

"Don't worry," said Tosh, soothingly. "Now...what are you planning to do now you're here? The university?"

"God, I wish." Lily made a face. "It's high school for me, I'm afraid."

"Really?" Tosh smiled, "I really thought you were older than that. Which is a good thing, isn't it?"

She looked momentarily worried, wondering if she'd ended up offending her so quickly.

"Oh, it is, and I so totally love you for it," Lily assured Tosh. "But alas, I'm only 17."

"A nice age to be, 17," mused Toshiko. "This place alternates between being sleepy and utterly mad. I'm sure you'll find it...enlightening, if not exactly fun."
