The normal serene and quiet nature was shattered early that morning with the sounds of construction and labor. There were shouts coming from the Lon Lon Ranch workers and the inhabitants found it difficult to continue their slumber. Upon stumbling outside, they found a very…odd contraption of some sort, hoisting a cow into the tree house of its occasional occupant, Link.
Overseeing the loud construction work was a bright redhead who sat on top the hill, overlooking the project with an amused smile. She knew Link was going to love it! Reclining back, Malon continued to watch on, occasionally barking out orders for working the equipment properly. A smile spread across her lips as she felt the presence of another standing over her.
“What’s going on over there?”
Malon tilted her head back and grinned at Link. “Surprise, Fairy Boy,” she said as she motioned for him to sit beside her. The Hero complied and plopped down beside his friend. She cast him a sidelong glance and made a mental note of his appearance. A tear trailed across his tunic and his blue eyes looked so dull and tired.
“Did you have fun?” Malon asked as the frantic moo from the cow caught her attention.
“Have fun? In the Forest Temple? Are you insane?” Link rolled his eyes.
There was silence and Link grimaced when he heard a crack in the scaffolding’s base. “What is all this Malon?” he asked finally. She grinned and looked up toward the sky. “It’s your prize, Fairy Boy. Remember you beat my record,” she explained. Link led such a busy, albeit dangerous life. Malon was surprised he remembered her at all.
“It’s stuff like this that makes you unforgettable,” he says quietly. Malon grinned, kissing his cheek gently. “When I beat your record, I’ll be taking my cow back.” She whispered playfully before jumping up and dashing toward the tree house.
