Toria's hand was shaky as she wrote. The pain made it difficult to write with her usual reasonably tidy writing, and it showed in the jagged scrawl that came out on the paper. It was readable, but the last time her writing had looked that sloppy, she'd been five years old.
Father,
Please burn this letter once you have finished reading. I was pushed because of concern that I might speak of what I had heard, so on my word as a Lannister, I am not talking about it. I said nothing of writing, however.
There were two men. One said that the Queen was all that they had hoped and that she had done much for their cause, though one of the two said they believed her loyalties were divided. I think they may have been discussing Aunt Celia when they talked about a recent loss. One said he was holding something for the other. It sounded like steel. The last thing I heard when they heard me was that soon this land would have its fill of...and then they heard me.
The man who found me knew who I was. I scratched him across the face when I tried to get away, for all the good it did me. I also kicked him, so perhaps a man with scratches and a limp will turn up. He said that if I spoke, I wouldn't sing for my dragon again. I lied about how much I heard. I claimed to have only heard that something would be held in trust. Then he threw me down the stairs.
I know I did my best to fall properly but I hit my head hard enough that it's throbbing now. However, it gives me a convenient way to claim I don't remember anything so I suppose that the blow has its uses.
Toria
It was upsetting to recall everything, but she needed to make certain that her father knew of it at least. If there was one thing Toria had absolute trust in, it was that he'd find a way to make the man who pushed her pay for what he'd done. She handed the letter to him.
"I think I made a lot of errors," she said. "If it's too incomprehensible, perhaps I can ask Desmera to write the letter for me tomorrow after I've had some rest."
Desmera wasn't well-read, but she had learned to read and write a little. Toria had helped her improve when she was practicing with her own lessons.
