The Regent was holding court, as if the unpleasantness of the night before was unheard of. Sandro admired the man’s conviction if little else. He watched the wolf king as he meted out justice, decided on a myriad of small and deeply-held grievances, and even sorted out a few disagreements arising from some of the previous night’s altercations.
The man was fair, even-handed, and more boring than a eunuch in a courtesan’s bedchamber. Sandro leaned back in his chair and inspected his dagger. Around him, some noble ladies chattered and a few lords were conferring over this or that. He kept his ears attuned to the topics of conversation, but few were speaking of anything but the uproar at the gate the previous night. Certainly they were not mentioning anything to do with the hunt doubtlessly waiting until he left. Just as well- Paegon had always been upset when Sandro gutted one of his witless courtiers.
