what on earth is wrong with the grown-ups?

Genna sat on the grass in front of a huge tree, a doll forgotten in her hands. Anyone who knew the little girl knew this was far from usual but she was busy thinking, her gaze fixed on the face carved into the wood. The tree wasn't a weirwood- it wasn't even the oak that served as the hearttree, but an ash, and the face carved into it looked suspiciously new though rather lower than the usual placement... and was surprisingly rough.
None of that was on Genna's mind, however. The feast the previous evening was, but it had really only been family and that was what Genna's attention was on. And it was taking all the fun out of her new dresses and the feast that was coming tonight.
Genna huffed and laid back on the grass to stare up at the sky through the branches and leaves, up at the clouds and castles flying by, pushed by the rushing wind. It was going to rain today, Genna could taste it in the air.
Lady Arryn- Hester- had asked her if she would like to be fostered in the Eyrie, and the idea still flitted through Genna's mind. She didn't want to leave Gwyn, but maybe if she went to the Eyrie she could find out... something. And maybe her mother would stop looking so sad if Genna wasn't here anymore. Father too. Nothing she or Gwyn did seemed to please them, and Genna was beginning to worry very seriously about matters. She hoped Gwyn would hurry-- they needed to come up with a plan. Something big.
The tree and the girl were off the usual paths people took in the godswood, but it didn't concern Genna- her twin would know where to find her. This was their place now. She just wished she knew what their place was outside the Godswood...
