Who: Arys, Idobel When: Day 51 Where: ??, Kings Landing Rating: PG Status: Open to Isobel only.
Arys Arryn, Lord of the Eyrie, Defender of the Vale, Warden of the East was used to getting his own way. Despite this his initial attempts to see the prisoners had been refused. Prisoners – it was laughable really. As if Isobel would murder anyone, and if Hester might he doubted it would be via a knife blow. The Martell girl might be guilty perhaps – though he wondered if Kaelyn had had locked Hester up just to keep her out of her hair and frankly the notion amused him. But not Kaelyn when he had questioned her about it. She'd been offended in fact, that he had thought her capable of such pettiness and that William would countenance it. He had reassured her that he was jesting and then realised he was being foolish – if the Queen permitted him to visit the prisoners there was only one who could gainsay her. And his goodcousin was likely occupied.
Persuading Kaelyn had not been easy but perhaps it had been easier once he had revealed he wanted to see Isobel, and not Hester. He wasn't entirely unfeeling of course – he did want to see Hester, but she would only berate him and expect him to have her released and Arys did not intend to push things. She was hardly benefiting him when she was out and about – not even her acquaintance with the Martell Princess finding her a husband. Yet he didn't think she would be convicted of anything – their new King must know he needed the Eyrie.
But permission granted he found himself wandering through the keep – guided rather and there were so many turns and twists he was sure they double back several times and when they did stop he had no sense of where they were in the keep. The style of the décor was unfamiliar and he was shown into a panelled room, lit by candle light – it was not badly kept nor a cell and that was a relief though he was not announced and the door locked behind him. “Lady Isobel?” he said, picking up a candle from a table to better light his view – was she abed? The idea would make him smile but he held back, he imagined she would not be coping well – but he could provide comfort.
