Description: Mixed reviews for upcoming annual Worthington Spring Gala and Fundraiser
Rating: R, Ohs noes!
In an unprecedented move, Warren Kenneth Worthington III, having taken over for his father as CEO of Worthington Industries in spring of 2015, has invited a plethora of super powered and super influential people to the annual Worthington Spring Gala fundraiser event. Previous galas have been successful in raising hundreds of thousands of dollars for children charities across the globe, but with the focus this year seemingly aimed more at the guest list than the fundraiser, critics have taken to social media in protest.
"Make it about the kids." Said Rita Jones, mother to young cancer survivor, Tony Jones. "Save the superhero spandex for war. They should be out ending world hunger or stopping terrorists. Not dancing in a fancy ballroom."
"Bad enough we have to worry about our safety just taking the subway to work every day. Now Worthington is painting an even bigger target on our backs." Dennis Myers, an accountant with a company recently bought out by Worthington Industries, is also registered as a mutant during the Mutant Registration Act of 2008.
Last reports revealed that the guest list consisted largely of mutants and mutant sympathizers. Non-mutant public figures such as Captain America, Mr. Fantastic, and Iron Man are said to have received invitations to the Worthington Gala, among many others. One spokesperson for Worthington Industries stated that the guests will not be coming as their superhero personas, but rather as themselves, as people and citizens who are interested in contributing to a good cause.
"I think it's great that these people we idolize so much can meet together like this out of the goodness of their hearts and contribute to a good cause." Popular blogger Lauren Walsh writes about the event. "It shows a human side of them that we don't usually get to see. It's just nice to have good role models in the media for once."
Warren Worthington, also known as Angel of the X-Men and a prominent public mutant figure, made this statement: "This isn't some superhero Geneva Convention, it's just a gala. Just friends and allies coming together for a relaxing night of dinner, dancing, and donating to help kids all over the world. Superheroes don't have to show up in a cape to make a difference. We're not always out to make a huge statement. We're just people like you who believe in helping those who can't help themselves."
With the public assassination of popular pacifist Charles Xavier still a fresh wound and an unsolved mystery, tensions are understandably high in New York City, which has suffered repeated attacks and losses at the hands of violent mutants in the past. The Worthington Spring Gala is set to be held at the Jane Hotel on Friday, April 8. Worthington Industries is collecting rare pieces, donated from all over the world, to hold on display during the silent auction that will take place during the event.
ooc: If your char is a part of the X-Men, Xavier's School, Avengers, F4, FF, or prominent member of SHIELD and/or SWORD, of society in general, or any of the "good guy teams" not already listed on the mod page, consider them having received a personal invitation from Warren. The group intentionally not invited is the Bro-hood, but when has that ever stopped them from showing up? ;) This will be a group scene on April 8 that anyone is welcome to jump into, invitation or not. Let's mix and mingle :D
