Mansion Trip to Assess the Aftermath of Deportations
Who: Alex, Aubrey, and Professor X
What: Visiting the Mansion
When: Sunday Morning to Afternoon
Why: Recruiting? Maybe.

In fact, word was that they already had and that it didn't go without incident. It wasn't exactly a recruiting trip but it wasn't exactly not one either. Perhaps Professor X would be a bit more interested in a different solution now. He also imagined that there might be some students who would make the decision they couldn't stay at the mansion anymore or that they might not want to.

Scott was a great leader, in Alex's mind, while (even leading X-Factor) he didn't consider himself anything special with exception of his past with the government. In fact, there wasn't much of an X-Factor to speak of at the moment. It was easy to lead a team when they had already volunteered to serve and were assigned under him but collecting like-minded people when it was easier to just ignore the problems, well he didn't expect to be any good at that. This was an instance where no other options were available, however.

After arriving at the mansion, Alex made his way into the main lobby and sat. He had to collect his thoughts and decide how to approach.... everything. The Professor would know he was there and interested in speaking. The students likely all knew about X-Factor and what Alex was doing. It might simply be a case of being available and convenient. He knew Rahne was already very worried about everything and if she weren't still a young student he might consider making her an offer for a different arrangement.

Aubrey was on his way to the Professor's office with Xavier's repaired and upgraded computer. It was a massive structure on a rolling cart that Aubrey was pushing off the elevator and through the foyer----when he happened to catch sight of ... oh, crap, who was that? What was his name again? He was someone's brother. Scott's brother? Yeah.

Pausing with the cart, he headed over to Alex. Was he waiting for someone? Chillin' out?

"You need anything?" All his life, Aubrey was the type of person to never speak. Since dating Kasey and having a lot of arguments about it, he was slowly working toward speaking more freely, even if he couldn't hear himself and his voice wasn't easy to understand.

"I was hoping to speak to the Professor, mostly." Alex had met Aubrey once before, so he knew to look at him when he spoke, at very least. He didn't speak slowly and awkwardly though, that would just make his lips harder to read.

"I also thought some residents here may want to talk with me about X-Factor now that I've heard what happened here with the registration inspection." He knew a lot of the people at the mansion didn't like any of their options. Offering another wouldn't hurt.

Aubrey was just on his way to the Professor now. He could take Alex there. He was pretty sure the Professor wasn't doing anything that couldn't be interrupted for something important. He tilted his head to one side, not sure he got all of that. "What about X-Factor?" He signed while he spoke, hands moving with far more confidence than his lips.

"I'd like to talk to the Professor and offer it as a serious alternative to mansion residents. I know there are a lot of residents here who hold a different view then what the current plans here are and I'd like to cooperate closely and offer those people somewhere they can work on a different solution." Alex wasn't sure how much people at the Mansion knew about what he was doing but he had heard that some people agreed with him.

X-Factor was working on solutions to the problem of the current mutant registration by lobbying the government, developing safe houses for those who didn't register, and for those who were leading; proving that there were ways to effectively register without tattoos that would lead to even more mutant discrimination. Even if the Professor didn't agree personally, he respected him and thought he'd be the kind of person to work together with Alex and present all the options to those residents that may wish to persue a different path, at least for the time.

Aubrey watched Alex critically for a moment, not completely sure what to make of it. Not that Alex was a threat, but whether Alex's plans were useful or just plain dangerous. Either way, it really wasn't up to Aubrey. He just worked here, and there really were no good solutions right now. Everyone had different ideas and opinions, so why not give them another option?

Were he simply signing, he would have explained that he was on his way to Xavier's office and was going to reinstall his computer. But, since he was speaking, he only managed: "Come on."

He started to head down the hall, pushing the cart again, and then he turned back to Alex with a frown. Aubrey was the type to watch the networks like a hawk, and he remembered one piece of particularly interesting information. "Terry was deported."

Alex nodded, even though it was a statement, not a question. It was pretty significant news here, he'd imagined, since she attended school at the Mansion. "When I announced I wasn't registering they took her. I had assumed that, being married, she'd be a citizen and couldn't be; that wasn't the case, though."

That was the only event that ever made him reconsider if he made the right decision. She assured him when he visited that he did and he trusted her. He thought he did too most times. He was possibly the only person who could feel any amount of safety being openly unregistered; with his past working with the government he still had a few people protecting him as much as they could. If they physically forced him to register they would have to deal with the possibility the media would go wild about it.

"Why not?" Aubrey frowned deeply. "Why didn't that work?" He'd assumed the same thing----that if he proposed to Kasey and they married before the deportation date, she wouldn't have to leave. It didn't matter now. He was, of course, highly interested in Alex's situation----because he understood it. Alex probably had no idea.

"I'm not sure. I can only assume they've equated registration for mutants with Social Security Registration for everyone. If a person doesn't do it then they're not a real citizen." That was the best Alex could figure. Nothing else really made sense but it's not exactly like they were extra willing to explain while deporting her.

Aubrey shook his head. "It's all wrong," he said. "I'm sorry about your wife. My girlfriend's gone, too." He nodded in sympathy and then beckoned with his hand. "Come on."

The walk down the hall was relatively short, and with Aubrey's back to Alex, it wasn't like they could chitchat about anything. He didn't need to knock on the Professor's door. It seemed like there was a psychic cue, and then Aubrey was making his way inside.

Professor Xavier was seated at his desk, going through a stack of official-looking papers. When Aubrey came in with the computer, he maneuvered his wheelchair around the desk. Their conversation was silent and psychic, Aubrey going about putting the computer back while Xavier looked beyond him.

"Alex."

Alex nodded his appreciation to Aubrey when he glanced up, then addressed Xavier. "Professor." He smiled, he hadn't seen the Professor in a long time and even a longer time when there wasn't something urgent happening. "I thought we should probably talk about registration and X-Factor now that I know how the school is handling things."

Taking a seat across from the Professor, Alex let the flow of conversation unfold naturally. There wasn't any need for him to repeat what had been going on at the office if the Professor already knew. In fact, no need to repeat a number of things he had thought here was just as possible.
