thread; x-factor & heroes for hire

Who: Carmilla Black OT X-Factor & HFH
When: Sept 27, Around 11:50 AM
Where: X-Factor Investigations
What: Making the whole partnership/subsidiary official and stuff.

Everyone liked cookies, so she had a whole basketful. She thought of bringing pie, but then she'd have to buy plates and cut it up and all that stuff. She didn't feel like doing that today, at least not right now. She was lazy, so she bought some milk to dip them in. Oversized double chocolate chip cookies were warm in the bottom of the basket. She'd actually picked them up fresh from a bakery along with some finger sandwiches. It was around lunch time and she was hungry so she thought, `why not get enough for everyone?`. The trick was arriving before they went to lunch! Or before lunch time so they wouldn't eat before she got there.

She'd sent a text to Felicia to let her know what was up, before heading over. She was in her civvies, a tank top and some jeans, the high cut and low rise left her navel exposed, where she had a henna tattoo just to see if she liked it. If she did, she'd eventually get some permanent ink done. Just because she wasn't going to have a registration tattoo didn't mean she wasn't going to get some fun artwork done.

Pushing the door to the office open, she swung the basket with her step to spread the smell of delicious foods throughout. "Hellooo~" She called in a sing-songy voice to see if anyone was around or...you know paying attention to the fact that she was there. "I brought munchies if anyone's hungry!"

Alex leaned over from his desk to see Carmilla. "I was wondering when you'd come back to sort everything out. Make yourself comfortable." He closed up the open files on his desk and stacked them up to clear off room for the food. "I worked up a couple different types of contracts depending on what you from Heroes for Hire decided on doing."

Well, he was a lot more put together than she was. Setting the basket down on the corner of the desk. He might be all business, but she was effin' starving and she was going to eat something. "Have you had lunch yet? If not you should. Skipping meals means you gain weight." She was building up a small picnic area in front of her and even managed to push some food towards him. It was a picturesque lunch for two since no one else had really walked over yet.

"There's enough for everyone, by the way." She said pretty loud, just in case someone in the next room could smell the food. "Let's get a good look at the paperwork. She said pushing her sunglasses up like a headband. She really hated this part. In fact, she hated all sorts of things involving paperwork, but she understood why it was necessary. The reading was going to be annoying.

"It's just me at the moment. Terry has had her hands busy since I went public doing all the things I can't go out and do anymore, like shop." When the food was laid out Alex got a bit for himself. He hadn't eaten and probably wouldn't have until after work without this. He nodded in appreciation as he too a bite then leaned over and pushed the contracts to Carmilla. "One is a retainer for Heroes for Hire, a non-exclusive contract that guarantees you'll get at least a case a month from us but otherwise nothing else would really change."

Alex tapped the next folder, "This is employment paperwork if you'd like to work at X-Factor; which means you'd primarily be doing detective work and you would be working exclusively here, so Heroes for Hire would dissolve. You'd also be full time employees on salary."

Carm frowned. It was always just the two of them. She was beginning to wonder if this Terry actually existed or he made her up to give her the place a semblance of being more orderly than it was. The only reason she actually believed him was because she was going to start working there or at least for him, and it'd be really pathetic of him to try and hold up a hoax like that for as long as she was employed by him. The first one was definitely more appealing considering she didn't create Heroes for Hire. She didn't want to dissolve the name, because that would probably upset Luke if/when he got back.

She was flipping through the papers, not that she didn't trust what he was saying, but she was about to do something big here. At least it was big for her, so she had to actually concentrate and pay attention. She liked it better when other people were in charge. She could just sit around, look pretty, occasionally kill things, though that wasn't allowed anymore. In the long run, it was actually better that way. Sure it would be great to sting someone in the face every now and then, but she pretty much made them really sick, nothing fatal.

The dosage had been the key, and she'd gotten a lot better with that.

"I think we'll be going with this one." She said placing the packet down and tapping it, before picking up the other one. She decided it'd be smart to look over it anyway. Her legs were pulled up in the chair, feet tucked beneath her as she stuck a finger sandwich in her mouth and went over the details. "Just in case something changes." She said to tell him why she was looking at the other one.

"Not a problem. Everything is prepared so that all you have to do is sign and then I'll file them off. Your team is also welcome to come in even if we don't have a case just to get to know us better. We also have a young girl from Xaiver's working here, named Rahne, so if you see her you won't be caught off guard." Alex ate a bit as well while she looked everything over and filled in her aspect of the paper work. It was too bad they wouldn't be with X-Factor entirely but having a retainer with them was better then nothing.

She was about to take a pen up and sign, while munching on another finger sandwich when something suddenly came to mind. "We're not registered...at least I'm not, if that's a problem." She wasn't sure if she should sign any sort of contracts with that sort of thing hanging over their heads. "Wouldn't that kind of get you in trouble?" She was all for them working together on the down low if it was needed. She knew his stand on the legislation, and so she felt a little silly for asking. She looked at him expectantly waiting for the answer, regardless.

"Well, my announcement was actually true, I'm openly unregistered. I figure they'll expect me to associate with other unregistered mutants. I think I'm just lucky enough to have a background that they don't want to get tangled up with the media, so we should be fine." Alex smiled reassuringly.

"Alright..." She was still a little unsure, but she signed the paper. She was actually supposed to be dead. She pretty much left out that part. She was wondering if she was supposed to tell him, but then again it was probably better this way. Only two members of the Brotherhood seemed to even realize she was alive, that she was aware of. If the others did, they made no move to try and reassimilate her. Two Brotherhood, one ex-Hellion to be exact. One really unhappy ex-Hellion.

"You sure it was the right thing to do? Releasing that video?"

Alex thought about the question for a long moment. "Most of the time. I told Tabitha I released it and she didn't accept my judgment..." He ran his fingers through his hair and pause for another moment. "It's just a tough call. If I hadn't released the video then I wouldn't have hardly any of the support or safe houses that I do now."

Alex looked across the desk to Carmilla, maybe for agreement or absolution. He didn't like that he had to do it but he felt he did the right thing.

"It felt a lot different before she got rescued." She said honestly. It felt like the right thing when the person definitely didn't have a say in what was happening, but she'd gotten out just shortly after so it felt kind of weird. It would've had a more lasting effect if she remained the victim, just a little longer. These were things that Carmilla didn't want to think about, but felt she had to.

"You do what you need to do to get the job done." She said with a shrug. She wasn't a priest and she wasn't going to act like one. If he knew her track record, she would've been the last person he looked to; the last. "If it had the desired effect, I guess you didn't do much wrong since you're helping more than hurting."
