Thread: Iceman and Husk
Who: Bobby Drake and Paige Guthrie
When: Thursday, September 4, 2008 - early afternoon
Where: Somewhere in New York
What: They're not truly running away as Bobby would never put anyone in that sort of danger, but getting away, again, for a bit, usually helps with any kind of frustration. Then again, so does some childish playing on the swings and the guy finally admitting that he likes the girl.

He had told her to meet him in ten minutes outside. He had loaded his car up with just a few things, and once he collected his pretty blond friend, he wasn't quite sure where they were going to go. Their road trips usually never took them to any place in particular, but it was enough to simple get away from everything for a while.

Again, much like the first road trip, it started in silence. Windows down and music blaring, Bobby drove down one of the many "back roads" in the county. It was going to start getting cooler, and that was Bobby's favorite part of the season, besides the snow of course.

Taking a turn, Bobby continued down the gravel-paved road. It was long, and well-hidden by numerous trees on either side. The road twisted a bit and brought them out to a wide opening. There was a small play ground, but other than that, it was pretty empty. Just a small park that Bobby had come across during one of his many ventures out.

Parking the car, he twisted the radio knob, turning it off and gave Paige a grin. "Thought this was a good place to run away to for a bit."

She wouldn't throw sand. That could go awry too easily and get into his eyes. And that wouldn't be much of a joke or a fair retaliation. So she'd have to do something else, something he'd never expect.

Paige grabbed his hand and was helped up. But in the second it had taken to get to her feet, the oddest idea came over her. And she went with it, not even thinking twice about how Not So Good it might be in the realm of ideas.

With her forward momentum, she took an extra step and was up against Bobby. Her free hand came up to grab his collar. And then her lips were pressed against his. It had been meant as a joke; something to catch him off-guard. Yet the sudden appearance of butterflies in her stomach told her that perhaps it wasn't just a joke in her head any longer.

Joke or not, it certainly had caught him off-guard. Completely and utterly so! So much so in fact, that he stood still for a few seconds. Until his brain registered just what had happened, and the fact that it was exactly what he had wanted to happen. Perhaps not that way, but it was good enough for him. If not better.

Without another moment of hesitation, Bobby had his arms wrapped around Paige's waist and returned her surprise kiss. He retaliated with his own firm kiss and idle fingers that had moved up behind her to fiddle idly with her hair.

The last time he had kissed a girl, a really kissed a girl, she had nearly taken his life, or close to it. Now? Now there wasn't that lingering fear, and it felt so good to really kiss a girl again.

Okay, definitely not what she'd planned. Or, well, the plan had worked but it had backfired. Slightly. No, backfire wasn't the word.

Bobby was holding her and kissing her.

And it felt good.

It was about the point where she was leaning into him and enjoying the feel of him just being there that Paige realized what had just happened. She pulled her head back only a few inches from Bobby's and looked rather startled, her cheeks reddening. "Did we just...?" Well now that was a stupid question. "'Cuz I--" A pause. "And then you--" Another pause. There was a motion with her finger, moving between them as though it could explain something.

She wasn't appalled. She wasn't disgusted. Heck, she wasn't even embarrassed (much)! Paige was just sort of...

Confused.

Confused was a good word, really. He only wished his face was as red as hers. Well, perhaps not. He didn't want to show his own bit of embarassment, shock, and, perhaps, slight arousal given the situation. It was no lie to himself that he had been attracted to Paige for a while now, but he couldn't act on it. She wasn't legal, then. It was, really, the main thing holding him back.

That thought made him grin.

"Yeah. We did." He paused, hands moving to rest against her waist. "Would have done it sooner, but, well, you were still a bit too young," he said with a smirk. "Couldn't get myself in trouble for coming on to a student and all."

It was flattering. It really was. But it was also still incredibly embarrassing. Paige looked down self-consciously as he spoke, mind reeling. Would have done it sooner... and ... in trouble for coming on to a student...

Wow, Paige. Way to be completely oblivious.

His hands felt warm, even through her clothing. She smiled, tilting her head back upward again. The look she gave was a little more shy than she probably would have given otherwise. Paige tended to joke around and tease; she was the little sister type to too many males. "So that's what the flowers meant. And here I was only kidding," she said and looked rather sheepish. Her banter with Bobby in the journals had been all in jest... or so she'd thought.

"So..." Paige began, trailing off and then chewing on her lower lip nervously. "Now what?" Clearly she wasn't at all adverse to the idea of, well, Bobby.

"Oh, ah, yeah. Those. Well, they were and they weren't. They couldn't be, really. But, well I guess they could, ah...yeah." It was best that he not try and explain himself. Every time he tried to do that, it always seemed to get him in to some sort of trouble --- or kidnapped by crazy anti-mutant terrorists. He could handle the trouble, but was hoping to stay clear of the latter. He didn't want to have to go through that again.

"Well, I don't know. I guess -- do you want to? Are you interested?" Because if she wasn't, well then he'd just do his best to forget about it. It would be awkward, of course, but he would manage. He'd done that with Rogue, sort of. And then there was the awkward thing with JP and, yeah. He didn't want to think back on his prior relationships and flings.

"I can make you a rose made of ice if that helps," he joked, snickering under his breath.

She was blushing, he was faltering. Definitely not exactly a romantic moment of any sort. But Bobby looked strangely uncomfortable and Paige couldn't help but thing he looked completely and utterly adorable.

I can make you a rose made of ice if that helps.

Paige rolled her eyes and chuckled. "I don't need roses," she said and kissed him again. Clearly she was interested.
