Thread: Armor, Bruiser, Wolfsbane (OT Speed)
Who: Rahne, Molly, Hisako, Tommy
When: March 18th, evening
Where: The kitchen, Xavier's school
What: Cookies and buns and cakes, oh my!

There was nobody in the kitchen, so they weren't going to be getting in anyone's way. And Mr. Wagner had sort-of-maybe given permission, and she hadn't heard back from Miss Lawrence, so Rahne thought that added to the whole "not doing anything wrong" angle. After all, if it had been something AWFUL, then someone would have said something already. Right? Right.

Sniffing the air to make sure that nobody was there, she went in and started looking round to see what ingredients and cooking utensils were there, and if they had the right ones for baking. Eggs, flour, sugar and butter... aye, they were all there. They could make fairy cakes at least.

After the response to her personal journal entry, she was half expecting to get lynched upon leaving her room, which was really funny since Sally never got that bad of a response when she expressed her JOY over the actual death of someone. Molly was having a hard time understanding grown-ups and right now she didn't want to. She especially didn't want to understand why Xavier had shot someone, but Magneto was supposed to be his BFF so she figured he was feeling the same thing she did when Alex died and baking him goodies, though not the best thing, would probably lift his spirits if only for a moment.

She was wondering when exactly Rahne would be doing her baking, and she was steeped behind a huge stack of make-up English work. She definitely needed a break since her eyes were crossing.

Working her way down the stairs, she walked over toward the kitchen only to hear the sound of clattering pans. Head poked in and what luck! There was Rahne. She wasn't sure how to approach this, her backwards baseball cap settled atop her head nicely as she wore a pink t-shirt with a kitty face and dramatic whiskers etching upon it. "Hello?"

"So I'm in the right place." Hisako came down the stairs a moment later, a faint smile on her face. Rahne was one of the few people she was beginning to know well in this place, of only because the girl was so terrified of the one subject Hisako really felt comfortable in. She'd seen Molly, of course, and could probably pick the boy who'd answered the journal entry out of a lineup if she'd had to. A chance to spend a quiet moment with new people, and feel like she just might be accomplishing something wasn't something the Japanese girl could turn down.

Tightening the belt of her sweater around her, Hisako swept her hair away from her face and entered the kitchen, offering Molly a smile on the way. Rahne had already managed to find almost anything that Hisako thought she could recognize, so she rolled up her sleeves and leaned back against the counter. "Thank you for suggesting this," she said. "It will be fun - and it's nice to be able to do something."

Glancing over her shoulder when she first heard the voices, Rahne smiled shyly and turned round fully when she saw Molly in the doorway and Hisako leaning on the counter. "H'lo. An' it's no' a problem. Bakin' always helps me t'relax anyway, so if it's helpin' other people too, well, that's all th'better, aye?"

She looked back at the ingredients she'd already found and moved so that they could both see everything. "Do y's think we'd need anythin' more? There's enough there for loads've buns an' I found chocolate chips too, just as y'both arrived."

"Holy cow, are you Irish?" Irish was the first guess, Scottish would be the next. She couldn't really discern the two, but the red-hair made her swing to the land of leprecauns first. She could barely understand anything coming out of her mouth, not that she'd say that outloud. At least it was a real accent, unlike the one Chamber tried to throw at her that one time. Stupid British wannabe.

When the second voice joined them, softly spoken her attention shifted onto the newest kid entering the kitchen. Instead of the wide-eyed awe she'd held for Rahne, her eyes squinted suspiciously at Hisako. That was the girl she'd been sharing Logan with. Molly did not enjoy sharing him, even if she wasn't all too happy with him right now. She wasn't even sure why she wasn't happy with him. You didn't shoot the messenger.

Maybe she'd visit David later. She'd take him some cookies after she dropped them off in the office with Professor Xavier. He probably wasn't feeling too hot about her post, but he had to understand how she felt. People like Magneto just didn't die or get killed. They were sort of...immortal; old age aside. It felt odd that she was kind of rooting for him, but you couldn't be the good guys if there were no bad guys.

But yes. HISAKO. Hisako was...all delicate and asian and pretty and had pretty hair. Squint. "Hello." She was totally trying to steal her man.

Molly wasn't the only one who had difficulty sorting through Rahne's words; Hisako had noticed almost immediately upon meeting the other girl that while her journal entries were clear, the English coming out of her mouth resembled nothing more than a very lovely waterfall. That having been said, Rahne was a lovely person, and Hisako usually figured out what she was talking about sooner or later, so she refrained from commenting. Instead, she snatched the few words that had managed to come through the lovely accent, and nodded.

"It look like more than enough, I think." A frown. "Now we just need to decide what to make."

That thought was interrupted as a glare turned itself in her direction. Hisako blinked, trying to figure out what it was that she could have done to apparently irritate a girl that she hadn't actually interacted with, beyond a casual hello in a classroom. Nothing came immediately to mind, so she fell back to default, and smiled. "Hello. You wanted coolies, didn't you?"

"M'no' Irish, no," she said to Molly, shaking her head at the same time. "M'Scottish. Y'ken, wie th'big highlan' coos?" To illustrate her point, she put her hands up to the side of her head and pointed out, trying to show the big horns that the cows had. "Coos an' Haggis."

When Hisako said about deciding what to make, she glanced round at the pile of ingredients again, thinking about what they could come up with, and so she missed any glaring that was going on. "W'can make fairy cakes an' shortbread, an' if we'd any cocoa powder, w'could make a chocolate cake. What do w'need for cookies?"

Walking over to the cooker as she spoke, intending to preheat it, she paused when she looked at the dials. All of the settings were in degrees Fahrenheit, not degrees Celsius. "Uh... can any've y'do conversions in yuir heads?"

"Cookies?" Tommy poked his head into the kitchen, which was soon followed by the rest of him. He'd read about the plan on the network and just couldn't resist sticking his nose in where it didn't belong. Especially if there was food involved. "Where?"

His silvery-blonde hair was flyaway as if he'd been running. Which, for all intents and purposes, he probably had. He didn't sit still well, too much need for action.

"Hey Bruiser." He stopped to ruffle Molly's hair in a fond gesture before eying the assembled girls in the kitchen. This. . .was probably a bad idea. But his ever grumbling stomach urged him otherwise.

"Conversions?" Hisako blinked, snatching again the one word in the stream that came out clear, and then nodded. "Yes, I can do that." Her home in Japan had used the British system, and after four years in the United States the difference between American and European numbers came almost without thought.

Turning to the boy who'd just entered, she gave a grin and a little shrug. "Nowhere, yet." Tommy? Probably? He'd been the only other person to comment on Rahne's network entry, and he looked familiar. One of these days, she'd really have to get around to actually learning everyone's name."You'll have to help us make them before you can eat them."

"Y'can? Oh, guid, I'd've had no idea where t'even star-" she said as she turned round, pausing when she saw that Tommy had joined them. She'd been too busy trying to work out if she could convert the temperatures herself and then realising that she really couldn't to notice him showing up. "Oh, uhm. H'lo. I never heard y'come in."

She glanced at the other two girls and then smiled at Tommy. "Aye, there's t'be no eatin' til we've actually made somethin'. Raw shortbread's really no' very guid."

"Scottish! That was my next guess!" Really, it was! She was about to correct Hisako when Tommy came in and cut her off with a hair ruffle. She was obviously annoyed by this, even though she knew he was doing it out of love. She adjusted her baseball cap and stood up a little taller. "Coos and haggis...ew! Haggis!" She made a face sticking her tongue out to the side. She wasn't really sure what it was, but she remembered it wasn't made of good things. "And the kilts and playing golf too?" Oh the stereotypes! At least she wasn't getting on about leprechauns and clovers...and DRINKING.

When they started talking about conversions, she looked at everyone funny. "We could just use one of the cookbooks laying around." she started looking through the cupboards and drawers for one. There had to be a couple of cookbooks in the kitchen...their chef couldn't do everything by memory could he? Was that part of his x-gene? "We should make sugar cookies with pink frosting and sprinkles I think! Yes!" She honestly couldn't understand half the stuff coming out of Rahne's mouth but she was trying. The coos at least had symbolism so she knew they were cows...or another word for goat...

"What?" Tommy gave Hisako a wounded look at the suggestion he actually have to be involved in the cooking process. "My mere presence in the kitchen isn't good enough?"

He struck a very manly sort of pose in the middle of the kitchen. Then happened to catch the last of Molly's stereotype ramble. He'd begun to wonder if Rahne was speaking English, with all her talk of coos and haggis. Wait, wasn't haggis something to do with the insides of a pig? Eww. "Pink?"

He made a face.

"Soooooo. . ." he started nonchalantly, eying the floor for a moment. "How come no one's barefoot?"

Someone was going to smack him for that one. But it was totally worth it.

Barefoot? "Why would I be barefoot?" If it was some sort of inside joke, it seemed like it would need quite a bit of context. Tommy's wounded puppy look had made Hisako laugh, though, so she gave up on trying to figure out exactly what he was talking about.

Everyone seemed to be going off on their own track, or in Tommy's case apparently a lack of track. Hisako had nothing in particular that she herself wanted to do. From the way things were looking, though if someone didn't start something soon they might end up with a lot of nothing.

"The oven seems big enough to hold more than one," Hisako pointed out, "And we have a lot of supplies. Why don't we all just ... start?" The oven, at the very least, could be preheated -- cookies all took give or take the same temperature, so she reached across and turned the dial to 350 degrees.

There! Something was happening.

Rahne didn't really get the barefoot reference either, but she settled for just looking confused.

She lifted a bowl and the ingredients she knew she'd need for shortbread and put them to one side, then put the fairy cake ingredients into another bowl. "I can show y's how tae make th'buns, if y'want? But I want tae see how yuir cookies're made, Molly. An' I'll make some shortbread too," she said, trying to speak a bit clearer, then smirked slightly, "an' some Haggis after that, maybe, if y's are guid bairns."

"HA!" Molly said lifting a book triumphantly into the air before shifting it to a page which with the sugar cookie recipe. "I think this is it...yup." She said looking around. "And we have every---"

How come no one's barefoot?

Her hand came to smack him in the gut. "TOMMY!" She said sticking her tongue out at him. "Ignore that." She informed the other girls. It was kind of rude. "Okay, we need sugar, flour...uhm...cookie cutters, water, baking soda, backing powder, butter, eggs, and vanilla extract." She started looking at all the measuring cups and bowls.

Then she opened the bag of flour--which puffed out all over her face and hair and the counter. She coughed sending a cloud in front of her.

"OW!" Tommy hadn't been expecting Molly to smack him, of all assembled. Lucky the others weren't American enough to get the joke - in however poor taste it was made. "Careful with that, Tiny Terror. I am breakable."

Tommy skittered back around the puff of flour, ducking around to use Hisako as a human shield. He wasn't really sure that flour was his color. Nor was he really keen on cooking. Come to think of it, they probably didn't want him to cook at all. He was going to be better at eating than any cooking attempt that could come out of this.

"Sooooo." He was playing with the sugar at this point, making more of a mess than doing anything productive. He tried to duplicate Rahne's accent but fell horribly short in the attempt. "What's shortbread, exactly?"
