Thread: BRAVE NEW WORLD BATTLE
Who: The X-Men, the Brotherhood, and NPCs for all sides
When: Early morning Saturday, March 15 and moving into March 16, 2008 -- this battle will last at least two actual days, maybe longer, which will account for any "frozen" time if the thread stalls the rest of the game----this is a battle of such importance that it would make no sense if it only lasted one day.
Where: Washington, D.C.
What: The battle for governmental power in America begins! For the detailed battle plan, please see the OOC post about it. Characters not on the list who choose to show up can show up... whatever :) but the plan is there to keep people's heads from exploding.

____________________

No one could have expected it would be like this.

There were news reports coming in that there were mutants attacking the Brotherhood in other parts of the country. Not everywhere, but key strongholds that no one knew about. They'd been expecting the march on Washington with reinforcements, but they'd never expected all of this. In Washington they were outnumbering the X-Men, sure, but elsewhere? Other bases would fall, no doubt. They just had to hold Washington. Whatever they did, they had to hold Washington.

The siege started just before dawn, with explosions in an empty park-----enough to serve as a distraction while the X-Men and their allies moved in to surround the area as best they could... but after that? After that, it looked like organization died. How could it survive? No one could predict how battles would go, and it seemed like the organized front had now dissolved into individual duels. The Brotherhood killed when they won, but the X-Men seemed to be dragging fallen foes into a forcefield held up by Sue Storm, containing them until... when? Until the battle was over?

No one knew when that would be.

"Run?" Cait snorted. "Are you fuckin' kiddin' me?" Okay, so the guy who'd just landed in front of them looked pretty damn badass. Some sort of souped up transformer, with more gadgets at first glance than Cait could figure out what to with. Honestly, though, Mercury found herself more intimidated by some of the mutants she saw fighting off in the distance than by this guy; any idiot could get in some sort of tank thing and walk around like he owned the place. And blowing his own horn? Clear sign of some immature asshole trying to make himself fell big.

Sinking down into a fighting stance, Mercury grinned. Chances are he didn't know who they were, didn't know what they could do. She couldn't speak for Jack, but as far as Cait was concerned, that just made it fun. "Bring it."

At the very least, the fanfared arrival of the War Machine had allowed Betsy to land daintily across the way. She was dressed, not in the traditional garb of the X-Men (since, of course, Xavier had seen to it that she wasn't counted in their ranks any longer), but in a loose-fitting gown -- the watchword, apparently, was comfort. The sleeves flapped idly in the wind, and little eddies caused the hem to swirl around her thighs lazily.

"Can I be of assistance?" she said to Cait, with a smile. The large hulk of War Machine proved a rather pleased aesthetic counterpoint to Betsy's femininity, but her somewhat lopsided grin should have left nobody in any doubt as to who the dangerous one was. The man in the suit might have been packing, but he probably had some self-control left.

The War Machine took the moment of calm, where his enemies were focused on each other and seemed to think he was waiting for them to prepare. He wasn't; the sudden hail of bullets from several different machine guns proved that as he took the opportunity presented to him. He imagined most mutants that he'd be able to find at a large fight like this would be able to handle living through this. He used the constant fire to herd them in the directions he wanted them to go, he wanted to split them up and keep them at a distance.

Betsy's surprise at the sudden gunfire almost undid her. There was no question that the woman was slower with the old reflexes after she'd spent so long in a civilian job (not to mention sat around, eating ice cream and drinking scotch), but...duh. She'd been a ninja for more than a decade. She could handle surprises.

She threw her hands out in front of her, shaping the telekinetic field before her to direct the bullets back towards Mercury and Accord: the problem, of course, was that they would also be directed back at Rhodey, but...well, he'd shot at her. She was here to help him, and he'd open fire -- frankly, Psylocke's sympathy was low.

"If you've quite finished firing at me, boy, then I'm here to help your side out." Betsy spoke aloud, as well as projecting her thought directly towards his head: she evidently wanted to make sure there were no more misunderstandings, before focusing her attentions back to the Brotherhood.

PULSE!

Suddenly, a dull pulse rippled through the air, followed by the faintest sort of low-frequency hum, coming in and out like a heartbeat.

Cait blinked, staring in mild confusion at the woman who apparently seemed to think that she was at some kind of dinner party. Although she didn't look particularly beaten up, which at this point in the game probably meant that she had something up her sleeve. She also looked vaguely familiar, violet hair and a kind of overbearing attitude, although at the moment Cait wasn't much for putting two and five together. Who exactly offered assistance in a fight? And why was she coming up to them?

Further thought was cut off when the conversation, or what might have become a conversation, was interrupted with gunfire. Cait swore, taking one bullet in the side before she dropped, flattening out as much as possible. And then began to move, as that brilliant purple shield started sending bullets back. Fortunately, no one was really aiming at the ground. Cait just managed to get clear of the spray, reforming to human atop a pile of rubble, when -

- She could feel herself melting, feel any control of her shape slipping away the way it had when she was a little girl. Unable to do anything to prevent it Mercury liquified, spilling down through the chinks and cracks in the debris until she was simply a puddle surrounded by rocks, unable to do anything but look out through the openings around her.

"Oh, for the love of fuck!." And swear.
