Hermione was dusty, carrying piles of paperwork home along Diagon Alley. It had been a long day and all she could think of was a nice, hot shower and a long night with all the new pieces of legislation she'd dug up under the large arm chair someone had shoved into the room adjoining her small office. Some people had no concept of organization or even rationality when it came to their jobs. She could not comprehend how exactly her coworkers had managed for so long.
A lack of passion, she supposed. And she was sure they were busy. After all, she was just a clerk in the office, so she didn't have much else to do but go through all the papers and run messages around. She hoped everyone appreciated what she was doing for them, it wasn't much, but it was something. At least she knew Kingsley did, seeing as he was the one to approach her on the possibility of this job. And honestly, being an Auror wasn't what she could see herself doing the rest of her life.
On the subject of Those Working for the Greater Good, wasn't training for new Aurors starting soon? Did Harry and Ron make it in? Is that what that owl the other day drop off? Them telling her the good news? Merlin's trousers, had she completely missed the most important day of her friends' post-Hogwarts life?! Nearly dropping the stacks of papers in her haste, Hermione ran the rest of the way back to her flat.
Reading could wait, she had to visit Ron and Harry immediately!
Minutes later, in a shower of sparks and loose sheets of anti-Centaur offense records, Hermione stumbled out of the fireplace at Number Twelve Grimmauld Place, bellowing into the house, "Harry? Ron?"
