Greg shrugged. There was nothing to be sorry about. Things were the way they were and all he could do was hang onto what he still had left. And make sure that Gretchen had things better than he had.
Her request was the last thing he'd expected. "Er, okay." After rooting around in the odds and ends of his workshop, he pulled out several short pieces of wood with a slight curve to them. "These are the supports for the bottom drawers of that dresser," he said with a nod toward the shell of a piece in the corner. "They're deeper so they need more strength, yeah? 'Cause people'll stuff as much in a drawer as they can." He handed the wood to Luna and pulled a fresh sheet of rough grain sand paper from a shelf. "Even though they're underneath, they still shouldn't snag stuff."
Taking back one of the pieces of wood, he showed her how to draw the sandpaper across the wood. "With the grain, not across it."
