Peter stepped into the flat when Plunkett and his girlfriend moved aside enough to allow his passage. This wasn't something that should be discussed in a public hallway. "Of course," he said to the girlfriend, who looked vaguely familiar. When Josiah murmured a brief introduction, the familiarity became clear. Despite what some of his subbordinates thought, Peter did like to relax a catch a game every now and then. "Did John tell you anything?"
"Only that Sam and Jess are missing and Mum is dead," Josiah replied flatly.
Peter nodded and began to explain in even, calm tones. "Last night, parties unknown attacked Samuel Plunkett's resident in the Cotswold. During that attack, Fiendfyre was cast, most likely by the perpetrators. As near as we can tell, your mother and the children were hiding or were confined upstairs. Mary managed to get the boys out a window and into a large tree. She was unable to escape. By the time the MLE was informed of the attack and responded, there was nothing left of the house. John arrived shortly after we did. From what little the boys were able to tell us, men in black robes and masks took Sam and Jess. We were able to verify that they were not in the house when the Fiendfyre consumed it. We are searching for them now."
Josiah tried to absorb the information but most of it simply did not make sense. Who the hell would want to hurt his brother and his family? He must have said that last outloud as Peter answered him.
"As you likely know, Mr Plunkett, your brother Sam is a prosecutor for the Wizengamot. He, along with my task force, has been working on freezing and seizing assets from known Death Eaters who fled Britain after the Battle of Hogwarts." That much, at least, was no state secret. "Until we know otherwise, we are going to work under the assumption that Death Eaters were involved in this attack. For that reason, I am going to recommend that you and your nephews move into a Ministry safe house."
