WHO: Cho, S. Fawcett and OPEN
WHEN: Monday evening
WHERE: Leaky Cauldron
WHAT: Trying to relax after a hard day on the pitch
RATING: TBD once I know who jumps in
STATUS: OPEN

Last week's match had been horrid. They'd kept fairly close all game until one of the beaters had noticed that their seeker was diving for the snitch. Of course, the chaser they were supposed to be protecting had taken a bludger to the head and in the chaos of his falling to the ground the seeker's attention had been averted causing the snitch to be lost among the clouds as it swooped back up.

Sitting down on the bench with the other reserves, Cho had cursed. She never would have allowed herself to be distracted from a catch. Afterall, there were medics and the like to check on her injured teammate. Not to mention that the best thing you could do when a teammate was hurt in the course of the game was to win so their injury wasn't in vain.

As a result, Cho had been tapped to seek this week. She was excited to start, but the practices had been twice as long as normal. The coach had been throwing all kinds of scenarios and distractions at her in order to ensure that the fiasco against Bats wasn't repeated again this week. So far, she had succeeded in overcoming just about all the scenes. Today she had taken one hell of a hit from a fellow player today when they'd knocked her so hard that she found herself bouncing sideways off the ground while on a particularly low streak. She'd hit with her left thigh and upper arm. While the damage wasn't too bad, she was a bit bruised and sore. Hopefully the tightness in the muscles would be gone by Wednesday.

For now, Cho sat at the bar in the Leaky Cauldron nursing her second fire whiskey. She wasn't in the mood to get sloshed (not when drinking alone anyway) and she was well aware that a slow take over by the alcohol would help ease her hurts better than a full on assault of her her system.

Sarah slumped out of the Floo at the Leaky, almost too tired to take the necessary steps to make it to the bar. She was only meant to have been on for the morning, but had ended up with a double shift as one of her fellow residents had called in sick. She couldn't remember the last time she'd eaten, and all she wanted was a pint and some shepherd's pie before heading home to curl up and sleep.

What an exciting life she was living.

Without sparing any more time on self pitying thoughts, she shuffled over to the bar and slid wearily onto a seat. She ordered her meal and pint before noticing a familiar - and equally tired-seeming - face a few seats down. "Hey," she called lightly over to Cho, "do you think it's a law that Mondays have to be terrible?"

When Cho heard a familiar voice she turned in the direction from which it came. Upon noting the face attached she stood and made to move a few stools over. When she stood and put weight on her leg, she felt ever bit of the bruises and winced slightly. She knew it wasn't a good idea to try and sit still too long as it would only make her stiff and hurt more when she finally did move.

"I don't think so," she closed her eyes and took a deep breath looking for relief as she took a seat on the stool beside her friend. "I just think the laziness of the weekend makes the daily grind feel even worse on Monday." Of course she knew they both had jobs where the occasional weekend work was required.

Sarah offered her former housemate a tired smile. "You might be right about that," she murmured before rolling her neck, trying to remove some of the kinks that had settled there over the course of the day. "I actually managed to get a day and a half off this weekend. I really didn't want to go back in this morning."

She'd noted the way Cho had flinched when she moved closer, and her Healer's instincts told her that her friend might have had an even harder day than she herself had. "Rough practice?"

"I took a fairly nice spill today," Cho replied as she reached across with her right arm and rubbed her left shoulder. "They're running me pretty hard since they want me to seek at this week's match." When she said it, Cho couldn't help but to smile. The reserves practiced just as hard as the regular team and she felt that for once it was all finally paying off. This time when she flew it wouldn't be because the regular seeker was injured. This time she flew because they were testing whether or not she was indeed the better starter.

"So, what has you all exhausted?" she inquired wondering if there had been any particularly interesting cases at the hospital that had served to add to her friend's obvious need for relaxation.

Sarah had a feeling that Cho was downplaying the extent of her injuries, but then again, she knew that Quidditch players could withstand a lot more than the average witch or wizard. Hopefully, her friend wasn't too badly hurt.

Cho's other statement penetrated Sarah's thoughts just as a plate of piping hot shepherd's pie was plunked down in front of her. "That's fantastic! Er, the seeking, not the spill, that is. Terrific news! You all play Wednesday, right?"

As she took her first bite of her food, she realized how ravenous she truly was. "Oh, not one thing specifically, really. Just...I worked about six hours longer than I was supposed to today because another resident called in sick." There was also the wizard who had come into the Magical Accidents and Catastrophes Ward with a peony plant growing out of a very strange place...but Sarah didn't really want to talk about that case while she was trying to enjoy her dinner.

Injuries were always a point of contention for Quidditch players. Players always thought they were barely injured and ready to continue flying and team healers always wanted them resting to keep from hurting themselves any worse. Cho tended to feel that unless she was dripping blood that there was no need for a healer. Still, after every spill the healers insisted on running a spell to check for internal bleeding. After the hit she'd taken today they had run the spell immediately, iced her, then made her hang around for an hour after the rest of the team was released to run the spell again.

"Up against Holyhead," she nodded. The Harpies were always fierce competition and Cho wished she could figure out why her team had always struggled. It wasn't that they were completely terrible, they simply didn't recruit the talent that most of the other teams were able to pull in. It hit her more than most because she had chosen Tutshill over the other two offers she'd gotten because she wanted to be on the team. On the other hand, most of her teammates had only been given an offer from Tutshill or the team had offered them a little more fund-age than the others.

Watching Sarah take a bite of food Cho realized that she might want to put a little on her stomach other than just the whiskey. "Muffin with strawberries, please," she ordered from the server that passed by before returning her attention to her friend.

"We have long practices at times, but we always know the scheduled time for the day before the start of practice. I can't imagine getting to the pitch and being told at the end of the scheduled day that we were adding extra hours." Because her order had been simple it arrived just as she finished speaking. "Though I guess someone has to fill in the spots. Would be horrid to arrive at St. Mungo's and not have someone there to assist you because they'd all called in sick for the day."

Sarah nodded. "It's irritating that you can't plan ahead for something like this, but you're right, the alternative would be worse. I did get to assist on some interesting procedures today though, which was good. But I'm just...ugh...practically dead on my feet."

She paused for a couple of moments to take a few bites of her dinner and wash it down with a swallow of her pint before turning her attention back to her friend, wincing when Cho named Tutshill's opponent. "Wow, that will be a challenging game. But you always played well under pressure in school."

She smiled wryly at the other witch. "I'll even forego cheering for the Harpies for one night to cheer for you - that should bring you extra luck." It was a sacrifice - Sarah took her Quidditch very seriously, and the Harpies were her favorite team. But she'd always make an exception to cheer on a friend.
