Oliver had gotten better about drowning himself in the showers after a loss. Hell, he was even mostly tolerable to be around. He only grumbled somewhat in public—and he could actually be in public, now. His grumblings weren't too bad, either. Mostly they were just recounts of what he could have done better, but really, Puddlemere had played excellently, but the Snitch had been caught by the Kestrals. It was just the way of things.
Though tonight Oliver tried to keep his grumbling to himself because he was trying to show a new friend a good time. He liked Emma, liked that she didn't think any more about him than he was Oliver. She didn't harp on him to be a better friend, she didn't want to talk Quidditch all the time (which was strange to him), and she didn't want his autograph, or to sleep with him because he was a Quidditch player. She was funny, and loud, and full of exclamation points, and she seemed interested in who he was for who he was, not anything else. She was normal, and she made him feel that way, too. (Not that he didn't think he wasn't normal, but sometimes people treated him as if he were more special than he was. That part of his job he'd never liked.)
"You good with that pint, Emma?" he asked, leaning over so she could hear him over the din. Several of his teammates were sitting at a table with them, he and Emma squished in with the crowd.
