"Happy New Year" Pansy's drunken scream results in every one around her hooting and cheering. The Knight Bus is full. There isn't a proper place to stand, and those that have a bed reserved have a partner there with them.
Pansy is bunking with Blaise, Granger is with Weasley, the other Weasley, much to Draco's surprise is with Longbottom, and Potter, Potter is alone. Potter is the only one that has room in his bed.
Draco is thinking about this very intently? Should he dare ask? Does he really have no other option?
He looks away from Potter and out the window. The city is beautiful. Even if it is the Muggle part of London. The Muggles have really outdone themselves with the decorations and Draco finds it hard to believe that no magic was used to bring out the beauty of the night.
He turns towards the room full of people again and catches Potter's eye. Potter is staring at him, and no one else seems to be paying Draco or them any attention. Luna and Hannah Abbott are under the covers, giggling.
Draco sighs and runs a hand through his hair. He's about to stand awkwardly against the side of the bus again and look out the window when the bus makes a sharp right turn, or was it left? Maybe it was both, and it causes Draco to lose his balance. He's about to fly across the way when hands--strong hands--that belong to Potter, grab him by the waist.
"Just get here, Malfoy," Potter says, "and stay here."
Potter plops Draco on his bed and holds on to him tight. Tighter than Draco thinks it's really necessary but doesn't say anything. The bus is back to a normal pace now and Potter still hasn't let Draco go. Eventually, Draco's body relaxes and he gives into Potter's embrace. It's actually kind of nice, and he thinks he can get used to this.
