A/N: This is for adventdrabbles Dec07, elrhiarhodan's "Remus -- It was always James" and sdk's "there is always time for tea".
Remus had dropped his books again, and once more it was Sirius who was by his side in a moment, helping scoop them all up.
"Thanks," Remus muttered, all the younger kids rushing about the entry hall and buffeting him as he shoved his texts back into his bag.
"Any time, mate," Sirius smiled. "Hey, need some company tonight?"
"Nah, it's not for a couple days," Remus told him, although he really sort of wished Sirius would hang out with him anyway, just the two of them. The nights when Remus got his friend all to himself were becoming fewer. He almost had to change to get Sirius alone anymore. He knew why, of course, and he understood. But…
He looked up into Sirius' sparkling eyes, the near-constant mirth, and his prick woke. Damned thing. Remus stood and held his book bag in front of his crotch. He opened his mouth to invite Sirius to study in the dorm that night – he couldn't think of anything more exciting on the spot -- but just then, James' voice came from the stairway above, "Oi!"
"Oi!" Sirius yelled back, turning away from Remus completely now.
"Lily's going with the girls to Hogsmeade later. Wanna get into some trouble?"
Sirius lit up. "Brilliant! After dinner?"
James slid down the last banister and right into Sirius. They stood close for longer than Remus deemed proper. He shuffled his feet, feeling invisible.
Sirius mock-punched James in the stomach, and James got him in a chokehold until Sirius pushed him off and then just pulled him in again for a fierce hug. "Say, how 'bout the forest? Been a while since we haunted the forest, yeah?"
James smiled. "Brilliant."
Remus startled when Sirius turned to him. "You in, Moony? Forest? Trouble? After dinner?"
Remus gulped. "Yeah. Sure." He didn't know whether to rejoice that he'd been included once more or feel dismay that he'd have to suffer more 'friendly' wrestling between them all night while they got drunk. "Sure, I'll go," he said again.
To Remus' shock, Sirius grabbed him up, lifting him clear off his feet, twirling him about like a bird.
"Sirius, cut it out," Remus said, but what he really meant was 'Keep doing that. God, don't stop doing that,' because he could feel Sirius' half-hard prick against him, and he liked thinking it was there because of him.
When Sirius set him down again, he turned his attention right back to James.
"I'm getting some broom-time in before Charms. Wanna come?" James asked Sirius.
Sirius shook his head. "Nah. Think I'm gonna kidnap this one from going to study hall and go scarf some tea and biscuits." This was news to Remus. He stood there, agape, while James and Sirius whacked each other on the arm in farewell.
Then Sirius turned to him. "Well?"
Remus almost couldn't find his voice. He'd just been chosen over James Potter. "I—"
"Don't you want to get tea with me?" Sirius said, an unfamiliar note of insecurity creeping into his voice.
"Yeah. Yeah, sure," Remus managed. "I just didn't think you'd…have time."
Sirius slung his arm around Remus' shoulders, holding him in tight and walking them toward the Great Hall. "Moony," he said. "I'll always have time for tea with you."
Remus felt himself blushing. Then he did something he'd never done before: he slipped his arm around Sirius Black's waist and left it there. Sirius' hand tightened on his shoulder. They said nothing as they walked, and they didn't let go.
And it was bloody marvelous.
