After the house-elf had been called, exclaimed over by the porlock, and the food brought, Severus had him bring several small cauldrons of pewter, filled to the brims with vials—empty and full—and more comfrey, coltsfoot, and even mugwort. Remus cleared the remains of their meals and set plates and flatware on a large platter, off to the side. Currycombe curled up at Gideon’s side and was soon snoring away.
“Pfft!”
“What’s wrong, Severus?” Remus leaned over his shoulder, intrigued by the way the Slytherin’s blush flowed up his past his collars and behind his ears. “Can I help?”
“If you could remove the straw dust, that would be helpful. But, as we’re in a stable, that won’t happen,” Severus muttered as he set out his potions ingredients, cauldrons, and other accoutrements. Severus sneezed delicately and hid his nose in his shawl.
Remus let his wand drop into his hand and whispered alongside Severus’ ear, “Tabesco Silva Aer!” A soft breeze wafted through the stables, leaving behind the smell of a pine forest, crisp, clean, and seemingly more pleasing if Severus’ appreciative sniff was anything to go by. “Better, Mr. Snape?” Remus asked in a husky voice.
Severus shivered a bit, but refused to turn his head. His blush gave him away, but Remus’ only response was a soft buss on his high cheekbone and, “You’re welcome.”
Suddenly, a whooping, swooping grey shape blasted through the doors, flinging straw everywhere. Peeves came to a waverying halt inches from Remus and Severus. “Ooh! Snapey and Loony Loopy Lupin kissing in the hay…” he called out in a high voice. “Slytherins don’t do horseplay, Loopy!”
“Peeves!” Severus ground out. He felt the loss of Remus’ warmth as the other man turned away, a low growl coming from the lycanthrope’s throat. “You’ll cease this caterwauling now!”
Currycombe rushed from Gideon’s stall and began snarling and ineffectually batting at the poltergeist. Then Remus took up a dueling stance and with a flick of his wand and a malicious smirk on his face banished Peeves from the Hufflepuff stables. Severus was pleasantly surprised, at both the lithe grace and the magical power.
“Currycombe likes Wolf. He has bollocks!” Currycombed stated with a grin.
Severus muttered to himself, “And an arse to die for, too!”
