"Remus," Severus shouted from the kitchen, "have you been pilfering the Christmas cookies? You cannot blame Theodore either. He is taking a nap."

Remus wandered into the kitchen, noting the tray of freshly baked cookies. Clearly, a few were missing. Remus scratched his chin. "I have no idea, love. I've been upstairs wrapping gifts. I didn't touch your cookies."

"A likely story, wolf, but these cookies are for our guests this evening. If you take another one, I promise to petrify you until the party begins."

Remus chuckled. "Yes, love, I'll just go back to my wrapping then."

"Fine, and don't come into my kitchen again," Severus warned.

Severus turned back to the task at hand after Remus left. He bent over and pulled another pan of cookies from the oven. As he righted himself, he caught a glimpse of something out of the corner of his eye.

A wispy figure, dressed in a long purple gown, dotted with silver moons and gold stars, delicately snatched another cookie off the tray.

"Put that back, old man," Severus growled.

The ghostly spectre of Albus Dumbledore twinkled merrily, clutching the stolen cookie to his chest as he winked out of sight.

"Bloody obnoxious cookie thief," Severus grumbled good-naturedly.
