Neville was tongue tied. It had been a while since that had happened, but Kingsley in a t-shirt with rolled up sleeves, along with denims that made very clear just how much he was enjoying Neville’s company left him speechless.
“I understand my boy that you’re between jobs.” Was it his imagination or had Kingsley put extra emphasis on the ‘my’, he wondered.
“Yes sir, it seems teaching isn’t for me.” Neville shrugged.
“Have you considered office work? I’m looking for a reliable assistant, someone who I can be sure would see to my every need.” Kingsley eyed him steadily.
“I’d imagine I’d enjoy working under you very much.” Neville smiled.
“But as much as I’d like being under you, I can’t take a job I’m not qualified for.” But he wouldn’t mind seeing to the Minister’s needs outside of the office, he thought.
“But you are qualified. Minerva has told me how much of a help you in the reorganization prior to Hogwarts reopening, setting up a file for each student; handling visitors with tact and making them feel welcome even as they waited.” Kingsley had been impressed; the Headmistress did not give praise lightly.
“I have to be organized, otherwise I forget where things are.” It was that simple.
“I’d still like to try you.”
“Try me? In the office” Neville needed to be sure he understood.
“In the office,” Kingsley confirmed. “I have no need for a trial period elsewhere. I am positive I will enjoy having you in my home, and in my bed. However, to be sure there are no inappropriate lapses of impulse control in public, we should visit my office tonight.”
“I’m sure I can follow instructions and not act rashly sir.” Rashness had never been one of his failings.
“I wasn’t speaking of you boy.” Kingsley ran his hand down the front of his denism.
