More than a Legend Part 1
Harry sat on the edge of the large four-poster bed located in the guest quarters of Hogwarts. The house-elves had gone all out, decorating for the season. The frosted tree twinkling with fairy lights rivaled the ones in the Great Hall. Green velvet curtains with gold tassels hung from the bed frame.
His hand ran over the white fur, trimming the deep red robe lying on the handmade bed quilt in colours of red and green. The silver frogs looked to be goblin-crafted. He wanted to be upset with Draco for volunteering them to hand out gifts to the Hogwarts students this year, but once he'd set foot on the grounds, the spirit of the season had wrapped around him.
He was home.
Many of the staff had changed, but the building remained the same, and the ghosts had new friends. He'd heard rumors that Colin was haunting the nooks and crannies of the castle, but his heart still skipped when he spotted him in Gryffindor tower.
It seemed ironic to Harry that he would be playing Father Christmas, the mythical being that had never left him a gift in his cupboard. He'd known from an early age that it was Aunt Petunia and Uncle Vernon who'd bought the gifts, but still, what child doesn't want to believe that if they're good enough, they'll receive their hearts desire.
"You should drink it soon," Draco said as he entered the chamber, handing Harry a wooden goblet filled with a potion Harry hadn't tasted since entering the Ministry with Hermione.
"Essence of Father Christmas, eh?" Harry said with a grin. "So who is it really?"
Draco's eyes narrowed. "Father Christmas, Harry. His beard was cut, as he requested, before he was buried."
Harry snorted. "Right, Malfoy. You're telling me that the man really existed." Even saying the words made him want to giggle.
"Not a man, Potter, a wizard. He wasn't into gift-giving back then, but believed in spreading Christmas spirit in other ways. Only in the past four hundred years or so has Father Christmas been giving gifts to those who aren't naughty."
Harry broke out in laughter. "So are you telling me I was naughty in my youth and you weren't?"
A blond eyebrow cocked up. "I didn't say he visited me. I probably would've hexed him. He hasn't physically appeared for decades. McGonagall was the one who found the box with the recipe and his beard hidden in Snape's chambers last year."
Harry set down the goblet on the bedside table, afraid it would spill over the top as he shook with laughter. "Snape, the wizard who stole Christmas!"
"He saved it, Potter, you idiot. The evil one had stolen it, thinking it might make him immortal. Just drink it, Potter."
The gulp was audible. It was horrifying to think that Voldemort had considered defiling Father Christmas in such a manner. He could only imagine the children's nightmares. "I will, but what are you going to dress up as?"
Draco's eyes widened with a mischievous glint. "I have my own potion to imbibe. Now come on, Harry, get the suit on; the kids are waiting."
Harry stood up and slipped on the robe. It was much lighter than he expected; his skin began to tingle. Draco smiled. "Now pull up the hood, and put on the boots."
"So are you looking forward to seeing what Father Christmas is going to leave in your stocking?" Harry asked as he pulled on the boots.
Draco picked up the potion and held it before Harry's lips. "I've been a very naughty boy."
