As he thought back on the whole chain of events, Draco decided that his first clue ought to have been the night of the carolers.
They were, of course, wizards and witches who would come and sing at all the best wizarding households. Malfoy Manor included. After all, it was still acknowledged as one of the greatest wizarding estates in all of Britain.
Besides, people seemed to genuinely like Andromeda, and many of Gilderoy's fans had learned about him staying there, as well.
So, there they all were: Gilderoy, Narcissa, Andromeda and Teddy, and of course, Draco, himself. They watched from the doorway as the group sang their mediocre rendition of some tired and banal carols. And then, all of a sudden, the most lovely sound came forth. Not from the group standing out in the snow, but from... Gilderoy Lockhart, himself.
Draco was completely awestruck at how lovely the man's voice was. He sang in a bright Tenor, accenting every forte perfectly, and blending in nicely with the tune. As Draco watched him, he could have sworn he saw a soft halo glow around the man.
Soon, everyone outside was staring at him, as well, and a few of them had stopped singing so they could hear that lovely voice better. Draco moved to stand closer to him, and just couldn't resist taking his hand.
When Gilderoy stopped singing, everyone let out a breath they hadn't known they'd been holding, and just paused for a moment.
Draco smiled. "I think someone's earned his hot toddy for tonight," he whispered.
