Who: Bren and Elva
When: Saturday morning
What: THE MORNING AFTER DUN DUN DUN DUN
Where: his flat

Brennan stirred, exhaling softly. It was clearly too early to be awake. Not that he had any idea what time it was, but it was Saturday; that one of the few days where he was actually allowed to sleep in, and if it was before noon, he shouldn't be awake. And yet he was. And his head was killing him. "Goddamn hangovers," he murmured softly, unaware that he was even speaking aloud as he rolled over. And hello, there was a girl in his bed. This certainly wasn't unusual; more often than not, Brennan didn't sleep alone so he didn't think much of it as his eyes closed again.

Until the night before came flooding back.

And suddenly he was wide awake and he sat up with a jolt. No, this wasn't possible. Clearly that had just been some kind of dream. Why he'd dream about her, he couldn't tell you, but it was the only logical explanation. Except when he looked at her again, there was no denying who it was, and he couldn't help but groan. This could not be happening. It just couldn't. There was no possible way that any of that had just happened.

"Jesus fucking Christ, Elva. I- did we really. No, it can't. Bloody hell."

Unlike Bren, Elva wasn't used to waking up with someone else in bed with her. She also was never very lucid in the mornings, however, and so when she heard Brennan's familiar voice whining at her, she groaned into her pillow. Her head hurt. A lot. Which probably meant that she had been drinking last night. Which meant that she needed to go back to sleep, immediately, so her head could stop hurting.

"Shut up, Bren," she muttered, reaching out a hand to push him away, but paused halfway there.

Something was very, very wrong with this picture. If only she could think of --

And then it hit her, and she sat up immediately, staring at him with wide, shocked eyes before she realized that she was, in fact, not wearing anything. Which only confirmed that -- oh Merlin.

At the same time she attempted to cover herself up with the light blanket and scoot as far away from him as possible, which resulted in her tumbling off the bed with a rather undignified squeak, and the blanket.

A couple of choice obscenities escaped her mouth and then she finally managed to say, "Am I dreaming or did I actually, seriously -- did we --" oh, scratch that idea, Elva couldn't even bring herself to say it.

No. Nonono. This was bad.

And Elva was off the bed, and he scrambled for the sheet to cover himself with. Normally he would tease her about her lack of grace, but any sort of coherent, normal response was beyond him. He was too busy trying to process what happened. Sure, they always joked about it- or rather, he did and she called him delusional- but for all of his talk, he never thought that anything would ever happen. He hadn't exactly wanted anything to happen either.

Well. Clearly part of him had or else they wouldn't be here right now.

"I wish we were dreaming. That would be so much easier. But. Uh yeah. Pretty sure we fucked. Actually. Pretty sure it was good too, which just makes this that much weirder. Because. Well. Yeah." He was just babbling, he wasn't fully aware of what he was saying. He was really just speaking to speak in hopes that this would somehow magically become less awkward. Which was not going to happen. He just blinked for a moment. What exactly was he supposed to do? This shouldn't be difficult, as he was all too familiar with the morning after, but it was Elva, and therefore totally and completely different.

Obviously though they couldn't just lay there naked so he rolled out of bed and fumbled for something to put on. "You should make yourself decent," he instructed, making a clear point not to look at her.

The worst part about all this? The worst part was that she remembered it and that Bren was right when he said it was good (she winced when he said that, twitched and flushed a little despite herself) and that she was never going to be able to look at him the same way again. Well, that was actually probably being a little overdramatic, but still.

She ignored his talk, except for the last statement. "I will," she responded, a little harshly, almost, as she went around looking for her strewn clothes (that was bad, especially when she kept on remembering how they got there).

Even as she began to reassemble herself she was still flipping out, just a little bit. "I just -- why you?" Elva groaned, half to herself. "Out of anyone -- why did it have to be you?" She didn't realize that the sentence could have come off as a little insulting, and even if she did, she wouldn't have really cared. Brennan could afford to feel offended at the moment.

"Why me? You should be thrilled. Honored, even." Now really wasn't the time to be insulted. And she had ever reason to be worried because this was weird. Weird didn't even begin to cover it, actually. And it would change everything. They couldn't just proceed as usual anymore, not with this hanging over their heads. It had been a mistake, a huge one, and they would just have to find some way to deal with it. But right now, it was just easier to play hurt and struggle for some sort of normalcy instead of dealing with it.

"I mean, if you think about it, it was bound to happen. You practically live here so. And when you come over late after we've been drinking. You're the Ravenclaw so I don't have to explain it to you. It's not my fault regardless. Not fully, anyway."

It was extremely fortunate though that Brennan wasn't stupid enough to make one of his usual remarks about how he had always known that she lusted after him or something. Though in all fairness, that had more to do with shock than an overnight development of tact.

Elva was, to put it quite plainly, quite terrible at dealing with these types of situations. In fact, she regressed to her first form of defense: snark. Which was not a good tool, in this case.

She walked up to him, forgetting that she was clad only in her underwear at the moment, and put her hands on her hips only to tell him, a spark of anger in her normally-calm face, "honored, yeah. I'm honored to have slept with the manwhore himself, Derek Brennan, this only makes me like every other girl in your acquaintance!"

Even as she walked away to find her pants, scattered somewhere around the bed, and pull them on, she was still mumbling to herself. Phrases (some quietly spoken and some vehemently exclaimed) like "bound to happen, my ass. We were doing just fine before."

It was to his credit that he managed not to gape at her as she stood before him half naked. Instead, he just arched a brow and looked affronted. "Hey, I am fully capable of knowing a girl and not sleeping with her. In case you missed it, I haven't even been trying with you because I actually like you. Well. Before last night anyway. The whoring, I mean, not the liking. I didn't try to sleep with you before last night." In all honesty, he was more talk than anything else. And besides, Elva was at his house most nights; she should know that he didn't always have company.

He gave a frustrated sigh as he pulled his shirt over his head. "Okay, look, you can't be angry with me." He would have forced her to look at him, but given that she still wasn't fully clothed, that would not be a good idea. "I don't remember how it started or who did or whatever, but you didn't say no, okay? I didn't force you to do anything, and I'm not exactly pleased about this either. And, you know, it's kind of your job not to take me seriously when I act like a whore. You dropped the ball by actually sleeping with me. Fuck it, I'm sorry, bad attempt at a joke. Some truth it but that's besides the point. The point is... Okay, I don't remember the point."

He was awful at this, and be was being far more awkward than he should be, and he had no idea what he was trying to say. He pursed his lips to silence himself for a moment as he tried to sort out his thoughts. "Jesus. What are we supposed to do now?"

A couple moments of scrambling more, and she found her shirt. Grabbing it, she pulled it on messily as she stumbled back over to him, nearly tripping again because her head began to spin with all the quick movement. Once she had her shirt on again, she placed a hand to her brow, closed her eyes, and tried to gather her thoughts.

"You're right," she said and sighed, because she hadn't thought she'd ever say those particular words to this particular birds, "you're right, I know you're not -- you're not at fault here, it's not all yours." She opened her eyes completely to meet his, still faintly rubbing at her forehead as if it would make the headache go away (she wasn't used to hangovers either, she was usually so responsible).

"I'm -- I'm sorry, I just sort of freaked out a little," she broke his gaze and began studying the floor, awkward and really unsure of what she should say. "You know I'm not really ... well, in my comfort zone here," Elva admitted hesitantly, not really certain that that kind of admission wasn't taboo in situations like this one or something or -- Jesus, now she was really overthinking things. "Kind of ironic that suddenly you're the logical one, huh?" She gave a wry, hysterically nervous sort of chuckle.

Logic, something she probably should get back. Elva exhaled and shrugged lightly. "I don't know. Pretend this never happened or just roll with it. Either way I figure we'll end up as we were before eventually, except that you'll have a lot more ammunition against me." The corner of her mouth twitched and she added, hoping to relax them a little, "maybe it'll give you the advantage in our verbal sparring that you so desperately need."

It was disconcerting to see Elva so awkward and uncomfortable, and he gave her a reassuring, almost sweet smile. "It's fine. This is definitely worth freaking out over, yeah. I'm sure I could be handling it better too, but it's just really fucking weird." He was frowning as he ran a hand through his hair. "Though weird doesn't even begin to cover it." But he didn't have to spell it out for her; she clearly understood the implications of this.

"Though I am always logical, thank you very much." Just maybe it was his own, special brand of logic. That sometimes wasn't logical at all. But he was just joking really, trying to lighten the mood to get rid of some of this uncomfortable tension.

"Not that I need the advantage. But pretending it never happened, yes, good. I like that idea. Easier said than done but. This doesn't have to be an issue, right? It was just some stupid thing that happened because we were drunk and we can leave it at that and never mention it again. Yeah?"

"Sure, Bren, whatever you say," Elva rolled her eyes, but it was all back to her normal, snarky teasing manner, "I mean, if by logical you mean logical in the way that, like, the Chudley Cannons winning the World Cup would be logical, then sure, I'll agree with you there. But don't worry too much about it, your lack of any sort of reasoning capabilities is endearing." Cue a smirk. Okay, this was already getting a little better. Even if there was a rather large elephant in the room that they were beginning to ignore.

"Sounds good to me," she agreed, and couldn't help but exhale in relief and feel a load lifted off her chest at his words. As long as he wanted to forget it too -- they were good. "And not telling anyone, of course. I don't want a horde of your ex-flings knocking at my door with pitchforks. Dear God, that would be scary."

He nearly sighed in relief. This was good. She was teasing him, mocking him, things were going back to normal. Which meant that things could be normal again, and maybe it wouldn't have to be something that was always dangling over their heads. Maybe they could successfully pretend that it never happened and go back to the way things were.

"Just because you can't keep up with my logic, doesn't mean that it doesn't exist," he reminded her, smirking lazily. "It's a hard truth to swallow as Ravenclaws are supposed to be the logical ones, but, really, you're no match for me."

He snorted. "Oh yes, a whole mass of them would come after you. Jealous lot, my exes. For your safety, I won't say a word. I wouldn't want you to get beaten up or anything." Though he didn't think any of his friends would really care, but he felt no need to tell anyone, not when they were trying to forget that it ever happened. "So long as you keep it a secret too. Especially from Cal." He could say with certainty that Cal would have his head if he ever found out.
