Mum, Dad, I have a real job. I was so excited that I didn't even ask how much it pays, but it's a real job, with time off for the full moon. And before you get suspicious, which I understand because I was suspicious too, the only reason Sirius Black offered me a job is that he's a werewolf too. He didn't say as much, but he said that he can't cover for me, because he has a previous commitment for every full moon. He might has well said that he is one. Anyway, I have a job.

It's here! I can't believe how busy it's been. I don't even have any responsibilities this evening, but I feel exhausted just running around making sure everything is ready for our first days of class. Seriously, I'm not sure how Dumbledore, Hagrid, and McGonagall prepare for each year and plan this event every year!

The feast went well, though I'm not sure how the students felt about me. The reputation of this position precedes itself.

Oh, yes. And I officially have no idea what I'm doing.

That is all.

There are times that I miss living in the city. It had its own benefits. Lots of noise, lots of distraction, lots of people. It was easy to get overwhelmed, and easy to be overlooked, and just easy. Everything within reach, any achievement a possibility. I often thought about how simply lonely it was, to be in such a confined space with so many other people. The country is vastly different. There is so much - almost too much - space. It's easier to notice and to be noticed, but there's also more room for my mind to wander. I don't think I ever thought this much in the city, there wasn't enough room. Ideas couldn't unfold and flex themselves. They can, here.

If I stand still enough outside, at night, it's like I can be lonely again. Nothing notices, nothing makes assumptions. I can stand on the porch and watch the yard come to life. There are so many sounds. Rustling grass, insect wings, bats chittering with each other. Occasionally there are rabbits. Occasionally there are people, walking without seeing. When did we forget how to look? How is it some of us manage to remember?

This would be a great space for a party.

It is strange to be back here. They say home is never the same once you've left, and I found it true of the house I grew up in. The walls never seem as tall as they used to. The grounds aren't as vast. The echo's not as loud as they were when we ran through the halls. I am beginning to believe that Hogwarts adjusts to fit you as you grow, however. I got lost yesterday, and it took me off guard, even if it does make sense. Times change and so do stairways.

At least there are familiar faces all around. Even the newer professors are people I recognize. One in particular I will have to pay a visit to, maybe tomorrow. Maybe sooner, if he will still respond to me banging on his door in the middle of the night.

Anyhow, the new year is almost upon us and instead of sitting with the students in the hall, I'll be at the high table. I hope I remembered my fancy robes. Surreal is a better word than strange.

Inheriting a classroom is a daunting task. There are so many outdated charts lying around, but several of them are practically antiques. I'll have to come up with a way to display them that won't confuse everyone. Don't want first years relating Ascella to Scorpius because of my poor judgment.

Just over two weeks and another year at Hogwarts begins. Well, it's the first year for me, technically. I should be excited to return, but I'm actually terrified. When I was last in school I actually knew people there. Not that I don't know the other staff, it's just odd, I suppose.

Anyway, I know I've been out of touch lately. The summer's been busy with preparing for my new job. What have I missed?

Anyone know of an effective doxy-cleaning service? I have suddenly been blessed with an infestation in the attic and I do not have time to be a domestic goddess and clean it out myself.

Also, I have two tickets to a concert - The Smiths. Does anybody want to come along?

Yes. I am prioritising a concert above work at home.

I may have been mean to Regulus and I feel bad. But I also feel angry at him. Very, very angry. Should I put my mind to other things? I have plenty to distract me at work but it's just...this sudden reappearance is baffling. What did we miss? How did we miss it.

He's already torn up Batty's flower garden, but luckily the old gal is a good sport. Mostly because I was able to fix it quickly.

On to other news! The official announcement will be in the Prophet tomorrow, but I've got board approval to announce that Cleansweeps's first new broom in 20 years will be released just in time for Back-To-School shopping! Trust me when I say you've never seen anything quite like the Cleansweep 7*. It's fast, it's sleek and, dare I say it, sexy.

(*Personally I wanted to call it the Bad-Ass Broomstick, but I was outvoted by the Board.)

Hello, my beautiful loves.

Would the owner of a pair of men's pants received today during the Request Hour please not send any others? Even the owl with which they arrived was offended. I've since had them incinerated. I cannot stress strongly enough how much I do not want things like that to ever be sent my way. Don't do it.

Yo ho mateys! Harry's birthday extravaganza is this Saturday, 12 noon, Great Lake, Just outside the Hogwarts boundaries. All proper protections have been arranged. An Apparition spot will be set up, and Portkeys available to those who need them.

And all of you sods with no children are welcome. There will be grown up fun to be had as well.

You know, I'm sure that Professor Sprout must just have a standard copy she sends out to me at this point. I swear I hear more from her than I do from my daughter.

In other news the cafe has food that are half off from now until closing if you need anything.
