FAQ

What can I claim?

A character, pairing, thresome/moresome, group of characters, an AU that you have permission to write in (ie you created it or the creator has given you permission to claim), or a fandom. Any fandom is welcome. Original fiction is also welcome. If you're not sure if what you want is allowable, just ask, as long as it's something I can tell if it's in each scene I'm pretty flexible on what you can choose.

How many things can I claim?

There is no limit as long as you are working on them all at the same time. If you genuinely believe you can work on ten claims at the same time without neglecting any of them, who am I to stop you? You're clearly insane, but that's your problem, not mine.

Can I write with a partner?

Yes, but writing with a partner means both/all of you write every fic. No alternating.

Can I split a claim with someone else?

Yes but state that when you claim and how many fics you'll each be writing

How many people can claim something?

Only one person can claim any one thing for each table. So if you want to claim Horatio Caine and someone already has him for table one, you could claim on any of the others but would have to wait until the other person is done if you wanted table one

What's the minimum or maximum length?

At least 100 words. No word limit, write as much as you like, but these are scenes remember not entire stories.

What ratings are accepted here?

Any and all. Just give adequate warnings and hide anything R or above behind a cut please/

Are crossovers and AUs allowed?

Absolutely. As long as your claimed character/pairing/fandom is featured you can do whatever you want with them

Is Real Person Fic allowed?

Yes it is now. (NB This is a chance to the rules)

Can I use previously written fic?

No, not unless you've rewritten it. These are scenes after all not entire fics, you should be able to manage to write all new stuff.

Can I use multiple prompts for one story.

No. One prompt per scene.

What if there's a prompt I just can't write for?

Since I didn't give you any writer's choice prompts you can replace up to five of your prompts with prompts from any of the other tables.

Do I have to write them in order?

Absolutely not.

Can I apply fic to more than one challenge?

It's okay with us as long as it's okay with the other community that you're writing for, although I don't know of many other challenges that deal in scenes. The finished fics can of course go wherever you want.

Does my character/pairing/fandom have to be in the story?

Yes, that is the point

Are there any deadlines?

Deadlines? What are those? No but if you're not posting and there's a wait for the claim, I'll contact you to see if you're still interested.

Headers and cuts:

I'm not going to tell you what header you have to use, but please include all the relevant information outside the cut. ie Title, Author, Fandom, Pairing, Rating and Warnings. Put the fic behind a cut or use a fake cut to your own journal if you want.

Please make sure you give the proper warnings for anything that might disturb people. If you want to put them at the bottom of the fic to avoid spoilers that's fine as long as you make it clear that's what you're doing and how to find them.

Tagging:

I'll give you a tag when your claim is approved. Please try to use them. Make a note of the tag because I delete comments to the claims post periodically.

Just out of curiosity, but have you considered joining up with some other communities (eg. [info]50_elements or the likes? Because what I really like about the idea is that you can actually just write scenes, and not necessarily whole fics)

Or if you rather not, would you have any objections if I did something of the likes? So that it can offer people that option, at any rate.

I hadn't thought of it. I fully expect a lot of people posting to join some of their scenes up (or expand them) and post them to other comms anyway. especially those people with as many challenges as I have :D

What exactly where you thinking of?

Well, I was actually just thinking of modifying the idea slightly so that affiliates are formed. See, sometimes the prompts that you see floating around are really nice, but you know that you don't have the stamina to write a full-story (in fact, you'd leap for joy if you could write even a single scene). So maybe, just maybe, if affiliates were around, there'd be more fic (so the theory goes, at any rate).

Maybe it's not something important to many, but to people like me who like really tiny fandoms (and you're possibly one of the only fic writers for that fandom as far as you know), it's really all about encouraging fic so that you can read something other that what you write, if you get what I mean.

Hence the motivation for wanting to create "scene comms" to affiliate with "fic comms", so that there will 1.be more prompts to write about, and hence more scenes 2.maybe help move some people from the scene to fic stage (and hence more fic).

That's what I was thinking, at any rate.

Hmm that's not a bad idea. Someone could set up a central scenes comm and then tell people they can claim prompts from any other challenge and post them as scenes in your comm.

Not have prompt tables of your own but use other people's. If you got the person doing the claiming to get the approval of whoever's table they were using it would be pretty simple to run too.

Mm. That's the general idea. So that's why I thought I'd ask if you were keen on the idea (since you are the originator of the scenes idea).

Actually I set up the comm (on lj) after a slight confusion with one of the mods of another scenes comm already there about what was and wasn't allowed under the rules (I'm not naming it because I can't remember the name, it's affiliated with my lj comm though). So much as I'd like to claim credit I really can't.

If you want to set up a comm like that please do (because now you've suggested it if you don't I will lol).

XD Feel free to. It's your idea after all. But it's probably going to take a while for me to get things set up.

Say, I was just wondering (since I'm looking for affiliates and all), is it all right with you if members posted their works over at the comm as well? As in, are you all right with it if members use your prompts and post it over there too? Because I just thought it would be nice if I could form affiliates to save members the trouble of asking mods all the time.

Perhaps you could let me know? Thanks!

Yes that's perfectly fine, although there's not much point in [info]50episodes members doing it since it's already for scenes but the other three are fine with me.

If I were you I'd come up with a list of comms and then just add a line to the FAQ saying if there's a comm you'd like to use that isn't on the list ask the mod and then claim when you have his/her agreement. That way you have a core list and with any luck your members will keep adding to it without you having to do too much work.

*wrinkles nose* It's RPF really which I don't allow, but I could probably be persuaded. (While RPF does squick me, I have read some that's pretty good as well). It would have to have some really good disclaimers on it though and I'd rather you either posted a link to the comm and kept the fic on your ij or posted it here locked (We're not that big a comm so I can understand if you'd rather it wasn't locked) because I feel a little uncomfortable with the idea of having it here when it deals with people who haven't been dead for about a century. I can only *imagine* how freaky it would be to google yourself and find RPF.

No they don't have to be. They can be from anything. I don't even care if they never actually make it into a finished story.

I'm quite impressed by the quality of the writing that I've seen here, and I'd like to join the community, but I already have [info]30_somethings on my plate. Would it be possible to split a claim between two different characters? What I'd like to do is pick one prompt table and write 25 Qui-Gon Jinn and 25 Padme Amidala scenes for that table, not as a couple, but as individual characters. Is that possible? Should I just be claiming Star Wars as a fandom?

We do seem to have attracted some good writers (and some lunatics since one friend of mine has 17 claims here).

I haven't allowed split claims although it's something I could consider but since I have so many choices for tables and you're not likely to be blocking someone else's claim I would suggest just claiming the fandom.

If I'm writing a three/moresome, does everybody involved have to be involved in every fic? Or can I play around with the different aspects of the relationship?

(Reply to this) (Thread)

[info]featheredwolf
2007-09-06 12:15 am UTC (link)
If you claim a threesome then the threesome has to be in the fic, however all three *characters* do not. Does that make sense? You can't write about two of them and just ignore the third person, but they don't all have to be physically present in every scene. They don't even all have to have got together for every scene - in another challenge I have a couple becoming a threesome and they're not technically a threesome until the third of fourth fic, but the 'threesome' is a part of each fic even if it's only two of them discussing the idea of the third character.

I'm not sure how clear that is at all, lol. Basically yes you can play around with the dynamics and aspects of the relationship as long as you don't ignore 1/3 of the threesome all together.

Two questions: If I haven't really started writing yet, can I change my claim? The plot bunnies aren't cooperating, you see. -pokes them-

And can I claim a love triangle (not a threesome, a triangle)? It'd be kind of very toned down in a lot of incidents, but... I dunno.

(Reply to this) (Thread)

[info]featheredwolf

You can drop a claim and claim something new at any point.

If you claim a love triangle then all your fics would have to be about the triangle in some way, no just having two of them in it and not at least referring to the triangle somehow. You might be better off just claiming one character if she/he'll be in all the fics. But as long as whatever it is you're claiming is going to be in all your fics then you can claim anything you want pretty much.

How many prompts can we post at once? Say I complete three prompts. Can I post them all at once, or does each one have to be it's own post?

I find it's better to ask, as some communities want you to post each prompt seperate, and others want you to do them in clumps.

I really don't mind either way. When I post to my own journal and link to the table I post separately just for ease of linking usually but when I post to comms if they're short I've been known to post in clumps. I don't have any rules about flooding the comm so if you want to post separately that's fine and equally if you want to save time and effort and put them all in one post that's fine too. All I ask is that the headers for each one are outside of a cut if you do that.

I might just be dense, but I wasn't sure if I could do this and I figured I should check with you about it first.

I want to claim Table 5 with the same pairing I have for Table 11, Ianto Jones/Tenth Doctor, but I'm not sure if I can have the same pairing for two tables even though nobody else has that pairing. Can I do that?

I'm asking way too many questions, but I've got another one! There's a couple of prompts in one of my tables that I know I won't be able to write for, and I was wondering exactly how I substitute from another table? I know I can find something to substitute, I'm just not real sure how to do it, and how to label my fic with the substitution once I do.

(Reply to this) (Thread)

[info]featheredwolf
2008-05-22 03:57 pm UTC (link)
You simply edit your table so that you have the new prompts in it. How you want to show they're substitutions is up to you. You can just replace them on the table and not mention it or you can cross out the originals and add the new ones or you can label them as Prompt #X [whatever] replacing Prompt #Y [whatever].

When you post the fic, in the header where it says the prompt say that you're substituting whatever your new prompt is for the old one. I'm not bothered about how exactly you phrase it I just need it to be clear so that if I need to I can check through and see how many you've changed.

Thanks! I was a little iffy about a couple of them, especially "blind date." I mean, given the nature of how they know each other, it'd be pretty impossible for them to do that unless the whole dynamic of their meeting is changed around.

And "snowed in," too. I mean, c'mon, it's impossible to snow in a Time Lord with a Tardis!

Can two people claim the same fandom and table if they're doing specific AUs of that fandom? For example crowgirl13 claimed My Chemical Romance for her Pedestrian Wolves AU (table 3), but I wanted to claim My Chemical Romance for my Psychic Vampire AU (also table 3). Each of us are writing 50 fics in our respective AUs rather than general fandom ones.

If not, I guess my fics will remain unofficial since the lj version doesn't allow rpf :)

(Reply to this) (Thread)

[info]featheredwolf
2008-12-28 08:26 pm UTC (link)
Yes because you're not claiming the same thing. T is claiming the Pedestrian Wolves AU, not the MCR fandom as a whole. It's no different than someone claiming Gil Grissom and someone else claiming Nick Stokes for the same table.

I'm hugely behind on approving claims due to two reinstalls of windows. I plan to get it all sorted next week.
