Jude/Max, Across the Universe
Title: Champagne
Pairing: Jude/Max
Fandom: Across the Universe
Rating: PG-13
Table: 10
Prompt: 22, Champagne

Jude bounded into the bedroom he shared with Max, a smile on his face. He'd just finished a project that he'd been working on for a while, and he was excited about selling it already; he'd nearly run all the way home, hoping that Max would be there to hear the news.

He stopped short at the door to their room, staring. It hardly looked like their room -- Max had draped one of Sadie's lace mantillas across the bed, there were candles burning everywhere, and two glasses sat on the small bedside table, a bottle of champagne chilling in a bucket next to the bed.

Max looked up and smiled, holding out a hand. "Welcome home, baby. I've been waiting for you."

"What is all this?" Jude looked bemused, entering their room and closing the door firmly behind him. Almost as an afterthought, he clicked the lock on the door; this didn't look like something that he would want any of the other occupants of the apartment to interrupt.

"Come over here and sit down." Max patted the bed next to him, and Jude obediently walked across the room and sat down, kicking off his sneakers and leaning back on his elbows. He looked up at his lover with a soft smile, wondering just what Max had in his mind.

"You don't realise just what today is, do you?" Max said softly, leaning over and pressing a gentle kiss to Jude's cheek. "I didn't know if you would or not, but that's okay. I remembered for both of us."

Jude shook his head, mystified. He was mentally scrambling, searching his mind for just what it could be that made today special. It wasn't his birthday, or Max's; and as far as he knew, there hadn't been any occurrences in their life together that would warrant something like this.

"I'm sorry, love," he said apologetically, spreading his hands in a gesture of hopelessness. "I wish I could remember."

Max smiled again, taking Jude's hand in both of his and raising it to his lips, kissing his palm and then laying it against his own cheek. "It's our two-month anniversary today. Exactly sixty days ago, I saw you for the first time -- and lost my heart."

Jude's eyes filled with tears at Max's words; this wasn't something he'd expected at all. But he should have guessed that Max would plan something romantic like this -- his boyfriend had a romantic streak that didn't often show through the somewhat rough exterior.

"This is beautiful, Max," Jude whispered, sniffling a little. "I should have remembered our anniversary. I'm sorry."

"Shhh, baby, it's okay," Max said softly, wrapping his arms around Jude and pulling the British boy close against him. "Hey, I didn't mean to make you cry. This is supposed to be a happy occasion."

Max raised a hand to wipe away the few tears that had spilled down Jude's cheeks. "I know two months isn't a big anniversary, but I wanted to do something special for us." He pressed his lips against Jude's ear, his voice a soft whisper. "Even though I don't need an excuse to make love to you."

"You can make love to me any time you want," Jude whispered, his dark eyes locking on Max's face, raising a hand to caress his boyfriend's cheek. Max was so beautiful, so thoughtful, so .... perfect. Maybe not in everyone's eyes, but he was perfect to Jude.

"Come on -- I thought we should have a little celebration," Max said, reaching for the champagne glasses and handing one to Jude. "And since I didn't get to pop your cherry, I claim the honour of popping the cork."

Jude giggled, falling back against the pillows. "Well, I can always pretend to be a virgin the next time."

Max raised his eyebrows, looking down at Jude with a smile. "Yeah? Now, that might be an interesting little game. We'll have to think about that."

He held the bottle between his thighs, trying to pull the cork out with no success for a few moments. When it finally flew out of the bottle with an audible pop, Jude giggled again as Max held the bottle aloft in triumph.

"There we go, baby." He took Jude's glass, pouring the sparkling, bubbly liquid into it, before filling his own glass and setting the bottle carefully on the small table by the bed and raising his glass.

"To us," he said softly. "To a long and happy life together, no matter where we are or what happens in our lives."

Jude nodded, raising his glass and clinking it against Max's. "I'll always be with you, Max. My life is with you -- it has been from the first moment I laid eyes on you."

Max leaned forward to kiss Jude, their lips meeting and clinging together for several heartbeats. When Max pulled away, they were both a little breathless.

"I can think of a better use for this champagne," the blonde said, taking Jude's glass from him. "Take off your shirt, will you?"

Looking bewildered, Jude complied, pulling his t-shirt off over his head and tossing it aside. He laid back down against the pillows, crossing his legs and making himself comfortable. Whatever Max had in mind, he was more than willing to go along with it.

Max tipped his glass slightly over Jude's stomach, pouring the champagne over the British boy's soft skin. Jude yelped, giggling and looking down at himself. "I don't think we'll want to sleep in champagne, Max!"

"That's not the idea," Max said softly, leaning down and running his tongue over Jude's belly, licking away the sparkling liquid from where it had pooled around his boyfriend's navel.

Jude closed his eyes, his breath hitching in his throat. Max's tongue on his skin felt so good ....

"Forget drinking champagne," Max whispered, lifting his head to look up at Jude. "I've got more important things to do."

With that, he lifted his own shirt over his head, sitting up and straddling his boyfriend's hips before he leaned in for another heated kiss.

In moments, the champagne was forgotten as the two lovers shut themselves away in their own private world.
