350k - 1 Year
write write write
The point of this community is to encourage yourself to write, not just in November, but every month of the year. We don't care where you put your writing. We just want you to put it somewhere.
Here's how it works: your goal is to write 350,000 words over the course of one year. Your writing can be centered on a single writing project, or it can be split amongst many. You may choose to count only fiction that you've posted online, or a novel that you're hoping to publish, or you may choose to count everything creative you write, from your fiction to your normal ij entries. It's up to you.
This is an honor community: we won't be asking to see your work. We won't be checking your word counts. We just want to keep you inspired, and offer you some encouragement along the way.
Where did you come up with this idea?
350k was inspired by 300k_words at livejournal, which encourages the same thing with a slightly lower goal. 350k is in no way affiliated with 300k_words, but we admire what they did.
Why did you up the word count to 350k? What's the breakdown?
I upped the word count for two reasons. First, there are 356 days in a year, but 356k doesn't have the same ring to it. Second, I wanted to ensure that people would see that we were inspired by 300k_words, and not trying to take over that concept completely. 350k comes out to about 984 words per day, or 29,167 words per month.
What can I post here?
Obviously, post a statement of intent - that is to say, post to let us know when you decided to take on the challenge. We also welcome updates to let us know how you're doing. Wanna tell us every day? Great! Wanna tell us once a month, or halfway through? Also fine! Finally, we welcome links to, or posts of, what you're writing that goes into your word count. Fiction or non-fiction, stories or scripts, we welcome it.
How sexual or adult can I get, if I post my writing or links to it here?
We ask that anything rated R or above be friends-locked, put behind an lj-cut, and posted with clear warnings outside the lj-cut, but we otherwise don't have an issue with sex. The same holds for graphic violence and excessive foul language.
Does it have to be solely heterosexual stories? Or solely homosexual?
No. Both heterosexual and homosexual stories are welcome here.
So... are there any limitations?
Currently, no. However, with the drama recently going on centered on livejournal, I will clearly state: If this community is approached by an official insanejournal.com representative or an official law enforcement agency, we will be working in compliance with them to ensure that we are operating within the law.
I don't have a program that can count my words in writing. Do you know somewhere I can get one?
Writertopia: Toolbox - Word Count can count your words with the click of a simple button. However, you have to cut and paste your writing into their text box. Additionally, Writertopia offers customizable progress meters to easily show how you're really doing.
What happens if I succeed?
Then we will post your name and a link to your declaration of success in this post and celebrate.
What happens if I fail?
Then we encourage you to try again the next year. You're one of the people who remembered that "'Can't' never did anything", and was willing to try, and for that alone, you're a success.
If there's something you're still wondering that I haven't answered, please post in the community, and I will do my best to answer it. With that said...
