Greg folded winged cranes out of the squares he had ripped out of the newspaper. He had started to assembly a crane army, as he and Nick waited for IAD to come interview them.
“They make us wait here all day, and then they take their time interviewing us.” Nick grumbled. Nick was lying on the couch with his arm over his eye, fighting off a headache.
“At least you have your truck back,” Greg didn’t look up from the crane he was folding, but knew that Nick was probably scowling over at him. The guy who had stolen Nick’s truck had given it a new paint job. Greg thought it was kind of funny, and he couldn’t help but chuckle every time he thought about it.
Nick got up very carefully, and began to unfold and crumble some of the cranes. He threw five of them in the trashcan. Nick knew that Greg didn’t really care, but it made him feel a little better to destroy them. The paper birds almost filled the table, anyway.
Nick couldn’t wait till the whole thing was over, and he could go home and sleep. He checked the hall to see if Sara was coming back from her interview. She had been with I.A.D. for an hour.
Greg patted Nick’s shoulder. “I’m sure you will be able to talk to them soon.” Sara and Greg had agreed to let Nick go first, but I.A.D. had had other plans. They didn’t seem to have any sympathy for the fact that Nick was also a victim in this mess, even though his truck had been returned, he had been out a vehicle for almost 12 hours stuck in the lab with nothing to do. I.A.D. was probably more pissed over the bad publicity that the case garnered since most of the evidence collected had been contaminated.
Nick sat down at the table, and chuckled for a moment. “You know it is a bit funny that you and Sara put the evidence in my car because you had too much overtime, than you guys got stuck in the lab all day.”
“That is pretty funny.” Greg chuckled.
A few seconds later, Sara came back into the break room.
Behind her was an I.A.D. officer, who pointed to Nick and said. “You’re turn, Mr. Stokes.”
“Finally,” Nick mumbled following the officer.
