Stormwatcher
Who: Kai and Tayne
Where: The main hall, at least to start
When: Anesus 6, late morning
Another day of rain! Another day unsuited for hunting. It was enough to make any Lykos be sullen and complain about the lack of decent hunting weather, though at least Kai was sure that such a storm couldn’t continue for long. The brindled Lykos couldn’t much complain about it anyway, though, since the rain had at last brought her (or sent her to) a cozy sleepmate and she no longer had to be alone at night. It was hard to complain when she now had that.
It wasn’t so bad that she still couldn’t hunt her own meals, either. Having to rely on the kitchens had introduced her to some very unusual new foods. Not all of them were good, at least to her tastes, but everything was curiously different and worthy of investigating. Even though there were plain slabs of meat, both raw and cooked, available for the Lykos of the compound, it was hard to resist trying whatever human foods the shift’s cooks had come up with. Kai was definitely a fan of eggs, now, having happily devoured a plate of them after they’d been seasoned and “scrambled”. The cook who’d served them had had a funny little rhyme about eggs and the birds that laid them, too. How had it gone? Oh the chicken is a wonderful bird, that’s what the farmer said….
Now she stood in the main hall, leaning at one of the windows and munching her last strip of some kind of crunchy-cooked meat as she considered the storm outside and the blurry figures beyond the rain-streaked glass. She’d already heard all about the midnight stampede and the poor herders trying to re-collect all the animals—and from what she could tell through the watery haze, their success so far had been limited. Kai had to imagine, though, that tracking big domestic animals through the storm was a lot easier than trying to trail tiny prey through the storm. She’d have to go help, once she was done eating.
