Sidetracked - Sephiroth/Zack
Title:: Sidetracked
Authors: icedark_elf and skeren
Characters: Zack Fair and Sephiroth (matched as per above)
Fandom: Final Fantasy Seven
Theme Set: HW1
Theme: Exhausted 12
Warnings and Notes: Boys talking about boys dating boys. And boys.
Sephiroth: ::has had the dubious joy of dealing with over-excited soldiers for the last three days. People had been leaving, consistently now, and everyone seemed overeager. They seemed to forget that they were still in hostile, if cease-fired, territory::
Zack: *is looking at the batch of papers that the courier just dropped off, not really wanting to look at it, or give it to Seph either. Had been a looooong few weeks, and he was really ready for this to be done. Hells, it seemed like there was more work now than there had been when they were actually fighting.* New orders, Sephiroth. *says this as pushes into the man's office-tent* Sure you haven't reconsidered the policy of fire materia on paperwork?
Sephiroth: Entirely. ::he peered towards the door of his tent with slightly narrowed eyes:: On allies, however, is in debate.
Zack: *quirks a brow* Wouldn't mean me now, would you? *grins at him, and offers the papers*
Sephiroth: Not currently, no. ::quirks an eyebrow, then sits back slightly from the desk and gestures for the man to put the pile down:: Well?
Zack: I promise, I don't have cooties. *sets them down anyway* At least not the kind you have to worry about. So, what have they decided they want us to do now? Send all the cooks home and make us scavenge from the woods? Last time I did that, we were walking home from the crash. I don't wanna have to chase things out of their dens anymore. They bite.
Sephiroth: ::does not want to know what things Zack has. Truly does not. He turned his attention firmly to the last of the statement.:: Even if they did, I'm certain we would have tents, the military is quite fond of them. ::glancing to the paper, he picked it up and held it away from him, giving it a thoroughly displeased look before he started to read. Then he blinked. Was he more tired than he'd assumed?::
Zack: *is getting ready to say something else, he paused* Seph, you okay?
Sephiroth: I believe I am tired. ::puts the orders down and then gestures him at them as he leans back in his chair again::
Zack: *hesitates, then snags them, and glances over them. Then, after a pause, does so again.* Seph...do these actually say we're going home?
Sephiroth: ::Hmm. So they weren't just a trick of the eyes:: Sephiroth. I suppose they do.
Zack: *pinches his own arm, then rereads. Then, reaches over and pinches -Sephiroth's- arm, and hands them back* So, neither of us are dreaming, correct?
Sephiroth: ::twitches. Had he just been pinched? He had. Thus, he glared. Intensely:: I can turn you back onto the list of people I wish to set aflame you realize?
Zack: I'm used to being on the list of people to be set on fire. You're just the latest of the bunch. Hannson in the 6th did set me on fire, actually.... *pauses, pondering this for a moment* Bastard. Anyway, we're going home.... That is so odd to say. *bright grin* But nice at the same time.
Sephiroth: So you say. ::turns from glaring to eyeing. Why was it that he'd accepted this madman's company? He was fairly certain at one point he'd desperately wished to escape it. Where did that go? He almost wanted it back, it made the entire idea of the man actually being on fire so much more appealing:: Midgar. To Midgar. Home implies a positive connection of some sort. What did you do to be set aflame exactly?
Zack: I'll be there. Won't that be fun? *gives him a soft smile* Friends are a nice thing to have. And Hannson was the traitor over in that group. I'm sure you heard about the incident. It's why my squad got sent here in the first place. I sorta...caught him giving the Wutai information. *coughs* Anyway, we get to go back to civilization! With hot water!
Sephiroth: Ah. Yes. ::beat of pause:: Clean surroundings will be a welcomed change. What do you deem....'fun'?
Zack: Well, hanging out, mostly. Though that might end up with me set on fire again. *frowns slightly, thoughts turn inward for a moment on the idea of being set on fire again. He had just gotten his hair back to how he liked it....*
Sephiroth: ::gives him a vaguely horrified look:: You want to wander around undressed?
Zack: *blinks out of his thoughts to -stare- at the man* Okay...first on the list of friend duties. Teaching you slang. Really. No, hanging out is just doing stuff together. Watching TV, making fun of idiots, setting things on fire. You know, just being around each other. And now adding in slang lessons. Most times, those don't end up in people being naked.
Sephiroth: ::digests that:: So 'hanging out' is dates then? I thought that required a woman?
Zack: *rubs a hand over his face* No to both, actually. Okay, think of dates, only with no expectation of sex. Or the possibility of a longer lasting, romantic relationship. *oh, gods, he just channeled his mom. Blah!* And you can go on dates with a guy. Knew a couple of guys like that back home. Just depends on what you like, I guess.
Sephiroth: ::eyes him for a moment:: So all dates end in sex or sex in the future, can be between men, and you want dates with no sex with me?
Zack: *dots for a moment, working through that mentally, then gives himself a shake* Sorta? Most dates, at least with people I have known, do tend to end with sex eventually. And hanging out is like dates, only without the expectations of a romantic relationship attached. You don't use the term "date" for the most part unless you plan to go out with them. For friends who are just spending time together, usually in a group, it's called "hanging out".
Sephiroth: So if you ever bring me flowers I should be concerned, and sex is not typically a group event?
Zack: Seph, if I ever started dating you, I'd bring you more useful things than flowers, and those would be orgies when you have sex in groups. Most people don't have sex in groups, though for some this is a turnon. *and this was the strangest conversation he had ever had in his entire life.*
Sephiroth: Sephiroth. So you intend on dating me eventually? ::nods slightly, not all that certain how he felt about the idea. Sex, as far as he'd ever learned, seemed particularly filthy. He'd have to do studies on that when they returned to the city.::
Zack: *opens his mouth, then shuts it again. Does that a second time, and just stands there. Then he pinched his arm again. Okay, not some bizzaro nightmare. Right.* Um...maybe? I don't know. Let's just go with friends for now. Sound like a plan?
Sephiroth: I've heard about friends who have sex too. Do they not date?
Zack: You don't have to date to have sex. Some people have sex with random strangers. They're icky and filled with ick. Don't sleep with them. If you decide you want to start having sex, that is. That's when you want a friend with benefits. *nods* They don't give you ick. *twitches a bit, thinking of a few people he had seen who had spent too much time with camp followers. Ew*
Sephiroth: ::looks horribly and utterly offended. Having sex? With one of those filthy disgusting things? He didn't even let the -clean- SOLDIERs touch him, let alone... things.:: Why would I go near one of those creatures?
Zack: *is still trying to get the images off his brain* Eeeeww. I feel the need for alcohol. *does the 'ew-icky' dance* Blah. I don't know, Seph. I was just commenting on it. Didn't think you would, but, yeah, random sex is better with someone you trust. *still has the "ew" expression on his face* Why are we having this conversation again? *oh, yeah, Seph had compared hanging out with dates* This is all your fault.
Sephiroth: You are the one who brought up prostitutes.
Zack: No, I brought up sex with random strangers. Prostitutes get paid for it. And the ones you would see in Midgar would be high-class ones. So they are clean. Not like camp followers. *makes a face* I was referring to people who do it for fun.
Sephiroth: I see nothing fun about getting sweaty and rubbing bodily fluids all over another person myself. I think we can depart this topic now.
Zack: Most people seem to enjoy it. But, yeah, moving on. *grimaces* Ew. Anyway. What are you going to do when we get back to Midgar?
Sephiroth: Unpack.
Zack: Awesome. Then you can come to my place, and we can make fun of all the bad movies that came out while we were here.
Sephiroth: I don't believe I've ever seen a movie. Though there were a few documentaries I was exposed to before the war.
Zack: *stares at him* All right. We're going to fix that. *something told him that it was going to be a bit tiring getting Seph used to how regular people do things.* Gods, I'm tired. So how long is it before they ship us back to Midgar?
Sephiroth: ::gives him an odd look. Fix what?:: Three days. Go, get things arranged among the troops, we are not the only ones. ::Taking the bottom third of the sheets, he extended them::
Zack: *snags it, then looks it over, and gives Seph a bright smile* We're getting out of this mud pit! *bounces a bit, then heads out the door. Had a -lot- of organizing to do to get everyone ready to go.*
Sephiroth: ::just stares after him with a rather baffled look, then just shakes his head sharply and gathers the rest. He had overzealously thankful fools to inform of their return to the city. Heading out as well, he went to start the process::
