Title: Parchment Authors: boxedcrayon125 and paraboban Characters: Arthur and Molly Weasley Fandom: Harry Potter Theme Set: Lightweight Table #2 Theme(s): Blank Warnings and Notes: None
Molly sat at the kitchen table, tapping her quill against a sheet of parchment. Arthur was, well, somewhere, even though they were supposed to be brainstorming names for their baby this afternoon. She was just beginning her second trimester, but she didn't want to put off names any longer. They had gotten a slew of suggestions from family, but it was their baby, and therefore, she wanted her and Arthur to come up with their own names. She had had a few ideas so far, but she didn't dare write any of them down until her husband joined her.
Arthur was tinkering around with some Muggle items he had gotten from a friend. He knew he should be going inside but it was so much fun playing with these things. He couldn't believe he was going to be a father soon; it was a natural step in their life together. He still was amazed by it. He stood and walked back into the house, smiling when he saw his wife, "Hullo, Mollywobbles"
When Molly heard the door open, she looked up from the parchment and offered her husband a smile, resting the hand that wasn't holding her quill on her slight bulge. "Hello, Artiebear. Are you ready to think of names for this little one?"
Arthur smiled proudly and moved to kneel next to her; he leaned over and kissed her cheek as he placed a hand on her belly. He was still amazed that something could grow inside of her. He leaned down to place a kiss on her belly then looked up at her, "I am ready, looks like you are ready."
She watched him with an adoring smile as he crossed the room to kneel next to her and rest a hand on her belly. It amazed her as well that there was another human inside of her, she ran her hand briefly through his hair as he pressed a kiss to the bulge, nodding. "I am. I've been waiting on you."
"You have?" He rested his cheek against her belly, "I'm sorry, I got so caught up in the shed I forgot." He felt bad that she had been waiting for him, but he was there now.
She nodded, stroking the cheek that wasn't resting against her belly. She knew he meant well, and she wasn't going to hound him. His shed was his sanctuary, and she wasn't about to complain about how much he was out there. "Apology accepted, darling. Though this little one does need a name."
He sighed contently; he wrapped his arms around her and began to think. He had no idea what to call their child, he was still in disbelief he was going to be a father. It wasn't that he didn't want to be a father, he was just amazed. "I don't know."
She slid her arms around him as well, bending to press a kiss to his head. She bit her lip when he came up with the classic answer of 'I don't know', as she didn't know either, but they needed something. "Well I don't either, love. Here, come sit next me."
He sighed and stood, holding his hand out to her, "Shall we move to the living room?"
She took his hand and nodded, gathering the parchment, quill and inkbottle as she stood as well. "I don't see why not."
"All right." He smiled and led her out to the living room, making sure she was comfortable before taking his own seat, "I don't think we're ready for a junior.'
She settled on the sofa and leaned back; stroking her belly once she had set her writing supplies off to the side. She smiled as well, nodding. "No, I don't suppose we are, but we also don't have any other names, Arthur."
He placed his hand back on her belly, stroking it when they settled on the couch. He waited until she had set her writing supplies down to take her free hand. He lifted it to his lips and kissed it, "What about relatives?"
She contemplated his suggestion for a moment before nodding, stroking his hand with her thumb. "We can start there, since your mother seems bent on having some sort of junior around here." She chuckled a little at that, and loaded her quill, preparing to jot down names.
"Uhm... Bilius?"
She nodded and wrote it down after making three columns, one for first names for a boy, first names for a girl, and middle names. She placed 'Bilius' in the column for middle names, biting her lip. "I think that'd make a good middle name. What about Fabian and Gideon?"
"I don't think they'd like us doing it right now."
She cocked her head for a moment, looking at her husband quizzically. "Now why not? Other than the fact they've told me explicitly I'm not allowed to have any juniors of them running around?"
"Are we having twins?"
"No, love. Only one." She replied, patting her belly fondly. She didn't think she would be able to handle twins if there were two, and she was thankful there was only one child on the way.
"You can't have one without the other, love. It's just not right, love." He grinned, and placed his hand over hers again.
She thought that over for a moment before nodding. "You're right, but middle name column?" She asked, poising the quill over the parchment as she offered him a small smile.
He nodded and grinned, watching her with the quill, "Middle name is fine."
She wrote down both names in the column for middle names and looked back at him. She hadn't known that coming up with names for their baby would be this hard, considering neither one of them really had ideas. However, she had faith that they'd get there. "What about your dad's name? Septimus?"
He thought for a moment and shook his head. He knew she meant well, but naming a kid after his dad right now wasn't a good idea. "I don't know." He sighed, "Is naming kids always this hard?"
She bit her lip when he shook his head, but she put the name down anyway, off to the side, as she didn't know where it should rightfully be. "I hope not. Then again, it might help if we knew if we were having a boy or a girl."
He sighed and nodded, "Maybe we should wait until we find out what it is. I just don't know right now."
She rested her head against his shoulder, sighing as well. "I know...but I kind of want to be surprised. We're only making a list right now; we don't have to decide until he's actually born."
"Then how about we do that. Wait until it's born.
Molly chuckled softly, setting the quill down so she could stroke his cheek. "We have to have some ideas first, dear. According to your mother things can get crazy after the delivery."
Arthur closed his eyes briefly then leaned over to kiss her, "We can do it closer to the birth."
She returned the kiss and nodded. "Not too close though, love, he's going to be here before we know it."
"I know." He thought for a moment, "Another month?"
She contemplated the offer for a moment before nodding. "All right. We can hold off another month if you insist."
"It'll be ok, love." He smiled and put his arm around her
Molly settled against his side, sighing. "I know it will be. I just hate to put it off, that's all."
"I'd rather have a blank parchment then to come up with a name that wouldn't work."
She thought about that for a second, raising an eyebrow. "Arthur, that's the point. To think of names and weed out the ones that we don't like and don't work with 'Weasley'." He shook his head, "If it's a name we like then it’ll go with Weasley."
"All right." She couldn't think of a protest to that, as he was right, in a way.
"See? It'll be fine."
She nodded. "You're right. It will be."
He smiled and kissed her again, and held her close. He didn't care what they named the child, as long as the child was healthy.
