Less than Enthused- Sephiroth/Zack Title: Less than Enthused Authors:skeren and icedark_elf Characters: Sephiroth and Zack Fair (matched as above) Fandom: Final Fantasy Seven Theme Set: HW1 Theme(s): Long Walk 27 Warnings and Notes: Injuries! Their first true interaction of the set.
Sephiroth: ::He could hear the teen talking. In fact, the teen was rather insistent about keeping his voice active for the majority of the flight, and that alone was slowly becoming more and more annoying. Because of this, he didn't make any comments, and he kept his gaze turned to the sky. Really, there was no better way of making the point that he Did Not Care::
Zack: *continues to comment aloud as he was looking over the files. Was pretty sure that Sephiroth was ignoring him, but that didn't matter. Zack talked to keep himself occupied and, who knows? The man actually might be listening. It had been a boring, routine flight checking out different points, and the last thing Zack expected was the sudden blinding flash of light and the roar that made his ears hurt as something exploded. The sickening lurch as, suddenly, the feel of dropping hit his stomach said that bad things were happening.*
Sephiroth: ::He finally got his silence, but it wasn't exactly in the fashion he'd been hoping for. The downward erratic spin of the helicopter was wrong, and he braced his hands just as his view of the sky suddenly turned to one of the ground in a decidedly painful fashion::
Zack: *the first thing he registered was the smell of things burning, the scent of melting rubber and hot metal coating his nose. Ignoring it, head aching, he pried open his eyes. What...? No time to figure out exactly what had happened. It was either anti-aircraft, spell, or sabotage. After making sure that he could still feel everything, pushing aside everything else once he was sure he move, he looked around, trying to see how the rest of the group was*
Sephiroth: ::The helicopter had finally crash landed on his side of things, and while this normally might not be an issue, he hadn't had the foresight, nor unfortunately the time, to use a wall or anything similar to avoid the blunt of impact. It also meant that he was stuck, and was very, very un-inclined to come around to consciousness to feel it::
Zack: *crew...had very messily not made it. Grimacing, he checked on Sephiroth, and was surprised to see the man out. Didn't think anything could do that. The crackle of fire was starting to grow, and he dizzily decided that getting out was the best thing. Besides, he was sure that the other side had seen this, and he figured the last thing that was healthy for either of them was to get caught by Wutai troops. Shakily checking on the other man, he gathered him up, trying his best to not damage him anymore. Digging through his brain for his first aid training, Zack got the man together and managed to crawl out of the remains of the copter, the dog tags the crew had worn in his pocket. Standing, things swaying around him, he took a few shallow breaths, and then collected the man, heading for someplace else.*
Sephiroth: ::the constant movement was enough, finally, to pull him out of the comfort of unconsciousness. He'd really would rather it hadn't been though, and he ended up growling as he tried to twitch away from the sensation of movement, his eyes still closed and more focused on the fact that the moving around made things ache more than the cause of him possibly being moved in the first place. He had the right to react badly after all, it wasn't often anymore than he found himself hurt::
Zack: Decided to wake up, hmm? That's good. *stops and settles the man on the ground, kneeling next to him.* Think you can stay awake for a few minutes?
Sephiroth: ::cracks his eyes open, still growling, and shifts, taking in his injuries and seeing just how mobile, or less than, he happened to be at the moment:: How? ::the word was rough, and that annoyed him, but it served his purpose. He couldn't quite focus on how he got to this state::
Zack: Copter crash. Be back. *swaying again as he stood, he closed his eyes and took another shallow breath, steadying himself, before going back to cover up their back trail. No point in leaving a mako sign showing where they had gone*
Sephiroth: ::He looked after him, then started to work on getting upright. Crash. Ah, the rush of ground was a crash. Figures that that would have been the case. Distracting himself with that away from his injuries, he managed to lever himself dizzily up to sitting, hands firmly planted on the ground for balance.::
Zack: *slowly works on covering their trail up. Wasn't sure how bad either of them were really hurt, though he had the sneaking suspicion that if they hadn't been so enhanced, they'd be like the poor crew back there. Needed to go through their supplies as well. He had a Restore on him, knew that, but it was a new one, freshly issued and not at all as powerful as he needed it to be. The first aid kit on the copter had been nowhere in sight, most likely trapped in the mangled mass somewhere, so he would have to make do with what he had. Slowly, after making sure it was covered, and almost positive he was hearing voices, he crept back to where Sephiroth was.*
Sephiroth: ::once upright he started to take stock of himself. Potions, apparently emptied in the violence of the crash, and not towards him if wounds were any indication. So that left a materia check. Not that it was easy to focus, and he found himself leaning more and more heavily on his hands, but he was certain there was some kind on him. He just had to figure out where::
Zack: *crouches next to him. Headache flaring at the movements, he paused to collect himself. Would go over injuries later* Got to go. Voices. All I got that's good is a first level Restore.
Sephiroth: I have materia ::rough murmur, but voices were, unfortunately more important, and the glitter of magic was liable to draw attention. So he shoved himself back properly upright and promptly felt queasy. Why was a lower SOLDIER taking this better than him exactly?::
Zack: *moves to support him, and helps get him to his feet* Let me know if you are going to be sick. *okay, ribs so did not like this, but wasn't much to do about it. Takes a moment to try to get his sense of direction, and picks out the way he needs to go. Thank gods this place reminded him of home*
Sephiroth: ::growls at him and tries to straighten up on his own, feeling very dizzy, and the pain was making him feel ill, but he was not about to say anything about it:: I can walk
Zack: Sephiroth, no offense Sir, but shut up and let me help. I'd like to get out of here before they find us, and I'm surprised you can even see clearly with how wide your pupils are. *gives a gentle tug in the direction they needed to go*
Sephiroth: ::growls darkly at him when the slight tug was enough to make him stumble off his precarious attempt at balance, and he ended up leaning into the teen, giving him an unfocused glare for being the cause of it. He didn't say anything further::
Zack: *hisses slightly at the sudden weight, but keeps them moving, doing his best to get them and keep them on a path that wouldn't show their trail so easily. Definitely hear voices now, and clamps his jaw down, moving as silently as he could while keeping them moving. Didn't have any real weapons. Was never leaving his sword at camp again*
Sephiroth: ::takes longer to catch the voices, but focuses on the man he was leaning on so he could keep even with his actions, though the world was trying to lurch sickeningly, and he was dirty. He hated dirt. Still, he could try for quiet, and trying to get his head on straight enough to walk on his own, as he wasn't that weak::
Zack: *isn't trying to get them far yet. Was looking for shelter. It was more important. Didn't know if they would be able to tell if there were survivors, but it was going to be dark soon enough, and needed to have them tucked away before then. Hopefully at least a little healed as well.*
Sephiroth: ::leans on him more heavily as the dizziness got worse and ends up growling again, weaker than earlier. They needed to get somewhere he could safely use his materia::
Zack: Try shutting your eyes. *soft, soft voice, still looking around. This was jungle area, so he had an idea of what to look for with a shelter. Just...finding it was the fun part*
Sephiroth: ::definitely displeased noise, but it couldn't make it worse, and he did so, the action almost an invitation for unconsciousness to come back, which he resisted. He wasn't going to outright trust someone he barely knew, he had enough trouble with people he did::
Zack: *is now positive had done something to his ribs, given the sharp, jabbing pain on the side he had the man on, but no help for it at the moment. Pauses for a second and rubs at his eyes.* Need to set you down a sec.
Sephiroth: ::opens his eyes and looks at him, though he was harder to focus on:: fine ::materia. They would have to risk it if they were both in such shape, though personally he was more annoyed at his lack of proper defenses than his injuries. Injuries, after all, weren't too hard to deal with::
Zack: I think I see a shelter. Need to make sure nothing else is in it. *moves to get him settle, a small noise in the back of his throat as that -really- hurt.*
Sephiroth: ::waves him off once he's far enough down, bristling and finding his own balance:: Go.
Zack: *ignores it and makes sure he isn't going to fall over, then does go to check it, collecting a sturdy stick as he did. Nice little hollows like that never came without a resident.*
Sephiroth: ::waits, eyes scanning around him as he braced his hands, and he blinked rapidly to get enough focus to check the surroundings::
Zack: *oh, that was fun. Made more noise than he wanted getting whatever the hell it was out of the hollow, and picked up a few lovely cuts from it, but nothing he couldn't deal with. Later. Makes sure it isn't coming back, at least for the night, and goes to collect Sephiroth*
Sephiroth: ::listing rather badly to the side, though isn't exactly aware of that, thinking he's successfully fighting off gravity, though that's not terribly reliable as everything kept graying out at the edges. Someone was going to die for putting him in this predicament::
Zack: *touches his shoulder* Come on. *doesn't just want to grab him. Is sure that might get him hit*
Sephiroth: ::hisses in the back of his throat, tensing, which just made him queasy as the muscles and wounds pulled, but starts to work on upright as the familiarity of the voice settled in. Finally, going somewhere to heal::
Zack: *moves to help again, hoping the man didn't mind a bit of blood, if he even noticed it, and he seemed out of it enough that he might not*
Sephiroth: ::another growl of warning as he felt the man help him move, as he very much didn't need it, but he didn't resist either, preferring speed over pride. He was in pain, he recalled there being something of safety::
Zack: *growls back, not meaning to, but he hurt too. Man didn't need to be so pissy about it. Makes sure to put the man on the side without the jabbing pains*
Sephiroth: ::startled enough by the sound to quiet, forcing his eyes open more to look at the source of it better::
Zack: *doesn't pay attention to him, pausing just once to look back the way they had come, listening hard, and then works on getting them to the den. Makes sure it's -still- empty, then lets his grip on Sephiroth loosen* Go in first.
Sephiroth: ::still eyeing him, but realizes that yes, there was a point to that, and it dealt with concealment. Ending up sliding down, he focused entirely on the task of crawling in enough to be out of sight and out of the way before turning his attention to trying to pinpoint the materia, ignoring the intense dizzying ill feeling trying to make him unstable in place, which he carefully breathed through::
Zack: *again, goes back and works on obscuring back trail, but hands Sephiroth his Restore before doing so*
Sephiroth: ::blinks and uses the materia in his hands first, it helping to clear his mind enough he can figure out where his mastered materia piece was. Which was with his blade. At camp. Joy.::
Zack: *curls his arm around his ribs tight to make it ache less, and worked on making sure didn't leave blood spots or prints. Didn't think he'd have to do this again afterwards, but...just to be safe, did it now. Once satisfied, worked his way back to the shelter*
Sephiroth: ::glares at the materia in his hands for not fully fixing much of anything and uses it again. All it did was make the pain less overwhelmingly dizzying. So long as he didn't move. Just how injured was he?::
Zack: How goes it? *looks at him closely, rubbing his eyes again as his headache protested that in such a dark space*
Sephiroth: I don't have mine ::still rough, and another casting. Did they give this one to the teen just to put his life at risk? It was hardly good for anything!::
Zack: *moves closer, breath catching a bit, and looks him over, hands light. Needed to see what was damaged.*
Sephiroth: ::growls darkly at him, shifting away, though that made the wounds flare back up. Not quite as sharp and grating, but with his three casts would have fixed a good deal more than this normally.:: What are you doing?
Zack: Seeing what's wrong with you. Please shut the fuck up and hold still...Sir. *follows him and continues to check*
Sephiroth: ::Stills but hikes the growl in volume, giving him an unfocused glare as he tightened his fingers on the materia::
Zack: *pauses to absently wipe blood off on his pants as it started to get on his hands, and went back to checking* You have a concussion, don't you?
Sephiroth: ::doesn't answer that, and vouches for another cast. He'd love something better than a first level spell::
Zack: *growls softly at him again, and finishes checking. Not much he could do to help. Settles back, and then starts to check himself over*
Sephiroth: ::casts a few more times, enough so that he could move without shooting pains, instead just intense aches, though has to stop when it starts to make his head hurt worse instead of less, pointedly rolling it back to its owner at that point. Stupid concussion::
Zack: Can't cast anymore, or it's not doing any more good?
Sephiroth: ::glares at it:: My head hurts.
Zack: *collects it eyes it* I can cast on you again if you want.
Sephiroth: ::bristles a little though just tips his head back against the wall and closes his eyes:: It's not very effective ::murmur::
Zack: *sighs and does so* Of course not. That would be them giving me something decent.
Sephiroth: Mine isn't... with me ::relaxes a fraction, listening intently to gauge where the teen was, but he could deal with being healed if it didn't cause his head to grow any worse::
Zack: *does a second cure on him, then one on himself after he had to stop himself from coughing and tasted blood in his mouth*
Sephiroth: ::cracks his eyes open to watch him:: It doesn't hurt if I hold still now. Deal with yours, there needs to be some defense here.
Zack: *makes a noise that is almost amused* Already on it.
Sephiroth: ::growls at him, but doesn't move to do anything else, just staying in place for now, trying to focus on coaxing his head to a less painful status. Concussions and magic never did mix::
Zack: *mutters* Yeah, yeah, keep growling. Doesn't do any good. *cast a second on himself*
Sephiroth: It improves my mood.
Zack: Lovely. Can't tell it. *takes a testing breath, happy that the sharp pains are down to a dull throb now*
Sephiroth: ::huffs a little, then twitches, letting his eyes close again::
Zack: *cast another heal on him, and looks outside. Was going to be dark soon....* Here. If something comes in that isn't me, jab it. *sets the stick by Sephiroth*
Sephiroth: ::cracks his eye open to look:: Leaving?
Zack: Going to get food. Better do it now while I can still see fine details. *sets the Restore next to him and moves to listen closely for any sounds of humans*
Sephiroth: ::rests his hand over the Restore and eyes him for a moment before closing his eyes:: fine, go.
Zack: I think I know where we are. And we'll need food to get back to camp. *doesn't hear anything and slips out. Takes a few minutes to hide the entrance. May be putting Sephiroth in the dark, but it would keep him a little safer*
Sephiroth: ::doesn't mind the dark, but listens hard to outside. He didn't feel unconsciousness looming anymore, but his body wasn't exactly being cooperative either::
Zack: *isn't even going to try to hunt. Instead, goes for roots and the like. This is close enough to where he grew up that he could find things that worked. Plus, had been here long enough to know at least a few non-poisonous plants. Chest still aches, and he wonders how much blood he has in his lungs, but continues to fight the urge to hack it up. At least until he gets far enough from the shelter*
Sephiroth: ::Ends up tucked into a ball with his back against the wall, the dark having lulled him into believing he was fully alert when he wasn't and his closed eyes had only added to it.::
Zack: *slowly goes back, shirt off and playing basket, keeping careful track, and giving a low sound, one of the ones they actually had trained them for, just to let him know he was coming back*
Sephiroth: ::twitches alert, hadn't been un-alert, though the movement made his body twinge in protest, his eyes opening::
Zack: *moves the cover aside just enough to slip in, and tugs it back behind him* I found a stream nearby. We can stop tomorrow on the way out. But at least these are clean now. *presses a tuber into his hands*
Sephiroth: ::takes it, then works on pushing himself upright, ignoring the pained jolt it sent through his head to bite into the offering instead::
Zack: Stay down. This isn't that tall. Sephiroth: ::growls:: sitting
Zack: Fine. Don't blame when you smack your head.
Sephiroth: ::glares at him, though curls down enough to avoid the graze of stone, satisfied to be back upright::
Zack: *moves to settle next to the opening, leaning against the wall, shivering a bit without his shirt, figures it's probably just shock kicking in finally, so ignores it. Focuses his attention on making sure that people won't get close without him noticing.*
Sephiroth: ::finds the materia and flicks it to roll back over that way. he couldn't use it without making himself worse::
Zack: *collects it, then casts on him again*
Sephiroth: ::watches him, chewing on the food though saying nothing::
Zack: *slowly chews on his own food, ignoring Sephiroth for now*
Sephiroth: ::continues to give him an intense narrow eyed stare for a moment longer, then looks to the root he was eating, focusing on it::
Zack: How do you feel now? *still isn't looking at him, most of his attention outside*
Sephiroth: ::glances back to him and narrows his eyes:: Improved
Sephiroth: ::affirmative noise:: are you healed?
Zack: As much as I can be.
Sephiroth: Good ::finishes the bit of food, then closes his eyes on a careful exhale::
Zack: You should sleep. I'm going to wake you ever hour or so.
Sephiroth: ::growls a little, though shifts to curl back up on his side, slowly::
Zack: *grumbles back, and settles in. Had a feeling this was going to be a long few days*
Sephiroth: ::tucks his face into his arm, and while he didn't trust the teen, his body was demanding an ease from pain, and rest was the easiest way, so really, he had no other recourse than to slip into it::
Zack: *keeps watch through the night, keeping track of the time and nudging Sephiroth awake and asking him his name and what he remembered each time*
Sephiroth: ::And each time, he got progressively more annoyed until he finally growled he wasn't liable to die in his sleep and batted the man away from him. Suffice to say, it wasn't helping his disposition::
Zack: *growls back at him again and keeps it up. Man can just deal with it*
Sephiroth: ::Doesn't get any happier with the stalemate, but doesn't fight it either. In all, it was a perfectly horrible night.::
