First of all, welcome to 100_women!
What is this community about?
Like many other fanfic challenge communities, 100_women was inspired by fanfic100, with a few key differences. The most obvious of these is that this community focuses on fanfiction about female characters.
There are absolutely no claims in this community. This means that you in no way have to tie yourself to a particular female character, or fandom. You can write about as many or as few women as you’re comfortable with--although I’d be most impressed if anyone manages to write 100 stories about 100 different women!
Do I have to write 100 stories? Really?
No, not really. “100 themes” was a popular hook for communities when I created this one, but I’m not expecting everyone--or even most community members--to write 100 stories. If you do, that’s awesome. If you’re only inspired to write one story, that’s perfectly fine, too.
Not all of your stories have to be written uniquely for 100_women. If an older story matches one of the themes, feel free to post it here.
What is the minimum word count?
Anything goes, really. Try to write at least one-hundred words, but I'm certainly not planning to do a word count on every story posted here.
What ratings and genres are allowed on the community?
Stories of all ratings and genres are welcome! Please, be courteous and provide such information in your story headers, and post the fic itself behind an lj-cut.
Gen, het, and femslash are all acceptable here (so too is m/m slash, so long as the focus is on a female character, who is present and active in her own right).
RPF (real person fiction) is also allowed.
The intent of this community isn’t to exclude male characters, but to celebrate the numerous awesome--but often neglected--female characters in our various fandoms. Therefore, The focus of the story should be on a female character, and *her* life, thoughts, feelings, relationships, and adventures--*not* focused primarily on the males in her life.
Can I post a story about an original female character?
The intention of the community is to bring attention to existing female characters. That said, I’m willing to allow each author to post up to five (5) stories about original female characters. When posting such a story, please make sure to mark your story clearly.
For example: BtVS, Original character: Jane Smith.
Does my female character have to be human/humanoid?
No. If you want to write about female dragons, or horses, or Star Trek’s feminine-voiced computer system, go ahead.
What’s “female,” anyway?
I’m aware gender identity isn’t *simple.* If your character is both male *and* female, you can post about them here. If your character is biologically female, but socially male, you’re good to post. If your character is biologically male, but socially female, they’re acceptable as subjects here, too.
What information should be included when posting? What else should I keep in mind when posting?
At the very least, I would ask you to include the name of your fandom, the prompt number, and the name of your female character(s).
Feel free to link back the your story/stories on your own journal rather than posting on 100_women itself.
Keep in mind that there is a character limit for the memories function (I am trying to add all entries to the memories by theme number, and fandom). If you have too many different fandoms listed on one entry, they won’t all make it into the memories.
You must enable comments on your entries, or I won’t be able to tag your entry, or add it to the memories.
How are tags being used on the community?
Currently, all stories are being tagged by fandom, character, and author’s name. You can suggest a new fandom or character tag before posting. If not, I will eventually get around to tagging your story, myself.
