Nurarihyon no Mago aka Grandson of Nurarihyon
The show is actually interesting. I'm considering picking up the manga I'd seen before but discounted because the summary didn't do it justice. But I absolutely loathe the female character crushing on the main lead. Firstly, it's all she seems to bloody well do - crush, but be unsure she's crushing or why it matters the boy looks at another girl. But MOST irritatingly, she's such a frigging victim.
It's bad enough when female characters make such glaringly bad decisions - example; surrounded by bad guys who capture a friend, and then the female character decides to stop fighting or give up her advantage for the friend's safety. Bad decision. Why trust a bad guy, especially one you claim has no morality or reason just intelligence and drive? But that's just a bad decision, and depending on how old the female character is, somewhat forgiveable.
But 'Kana-chan' is a frigging Mary Sue of Distress.
Most recently aggravating, is her discovery that a gift was actually a cellphone in disguise; given she's being chased by something bad, this would be a huge boon! But two seconds after discovering it is a phone, hearing her friends calling her name through it, and she's shouted out how she's being hunted and needs help - SHE THROWS THE PHONE AT THE BAD THING. The bad thing of course crushes it splat-flat. But I'm left going, really? First off, it's a supernatural bad thing, so just throwing things won't help much. But not her shoes, not her bag, not a pencil - nay, she throws her lifeline away.
Previous you've-got-to-be-kidding-me's? She drops her flashlight when she's scared, to grab her own hands. Apparently grabbing harder on the flashlight wouldn't do. But this was also after being told not to go outside alone because things were likely dangerous. She was alone, got scared, dropped her flashlight, and then moments later, forgot to turn around while trying to run away on STAIRS and damn near broke her neck.
I can give her not thinking of telling anyone she was having strange dreams, even though she knows supernatural bad exists - because sometimes abad dream can be just a bad dream. And I can forgive her not wanting to brave being scratched/bitten when captured by bad things - cause that's pretty daunting, especially when the bad things are vicious looking.
BUT THROWING YOUR CELLPHONE AT THE BAD GUY? WHILE TIS STILL WORKING?
Seriously??
Now I want to hunt down on tv tropes just want kind of character she represents. IS this the 'idiot ball'? Or something about the uber helpless and unable to function in her environment female character being somehow optimum?
