I don't know where to start. So far I've only read two chapters. And my focus is on how damn passive the main female character is. That, along with the 'Desert Country Of The South' having very iconic graphic representations (flags/symbols) etc. And I end up thinking the whole thing is 'Big Strong Europe/European Hero With Middle Eastern Wife Who Need To Be Tames'.
Even without wondering at what's lost in translation, the artwork makes certain concepts very clear. There's no attempt at cultural understanding, and on top of that, the female character is represented as childish/innocent/sexually immature and uncertain of her own feelings.
I guess I was somehow expecting something with the savvy of Saiunkoku Monogatari, wherein two individuals deal with their circumstances for the good of their nations, and perhaps discover a comraderie between themselves. Especially since there was emphasis seemingly placed on a long engagement of some sort - even though the characters are technically living in the same household (though in separate rooms).
