LJ News for the Lulz
The State of the Goat 2008 post is up at LJ, with gems like this:

2007: Something We Didn't Get Right
In our attempt to implement a zero tolerance policy towards content that supports child abuse, pedophilia, or sexual violence, we suspended about 500 journals in May of 2007 that should not have been taken down. We wish it hadn't happened at all, and we cannot say we're sorry enough. However, we did immediately realize our mistake, and all of the journals that did not break our TOS were restored as quickly as possible. We really screwed up, and when that happens, we've learned the best thing to do is just admit it and try to fix the problem to the best of our abilities.
Understatement of the year, you think?

Oh, holy hell. What a crock of shit that post is. I'd love to know how their active user numbers trended in 2007.

As for fixing the problem to the best of their abilities? Gah.

I don't know the exact numbers, but I think it would be kind to say the active member base is stagnant.

And yeah, I think we should have the Internet equivalent of the Razzies, say, the Failies? And LJ would win for 2007, and it looks like GJ will win 2008!

Considering they have the flagging system listed as a high point, I can't really say I'm surprised that they sugar coated it.

I can't believe it's taken this long to even get acknowledgment of what happened in the news community.

However, we did immediately realize our mistake, and [we immediately realized we should've apologized for it, too, but we didn't because we're pricks, so] all of the journals that did not break our TOS were restored as quickly as possible [since we know we shouldn't smoke crack before we delete everything in sight and ban searches for words like spices. Enjoy your stay on LJ: if you're still here you have been assimilated.]

*SNORTCACKLE!* Understatement of the millennium so far! I'm going to have to go over there just to see what kind of wank they're getting. Funny how they fail to mention that, after making that mistake at the end of May, they then proceeded to make it again in August.

The only thing they did immediately was ignore everyone. Of course that fact that 8 mths later and there is still no clarification of their 'policy' speaks volumes!

Reading that was a good laugh though!

What bull shit. A majority of those 500 users and communities are still suspended. The ones LJ restored they went back and suspended later.

Let me fix that for you, LJ.

Except that they didn't 'just admit it', they tried to cover it up and act like it never happened. Until the USERS went nuts on them. And only then did they admit fault.

I think they are just plain stupid. Something they didn't get right? Yeah. Right. *rolls eyes* It is something they have IGNORED and didn't do the job when it wasn't that bad. Now, after the cat has been left out of the box, it is really hard to fix anything like this! And I think that's the REASON why SixApart sold it to the Russian-KGBs Lord, because 6A doesn't wanna handle this type of problem anymore. It is something that they could have PREVENTED from happening but the damn administrators are too lazy to do their job.

Funny how the dumbest idiots always get their panties in a twist when someone actually dares to mention what a load of crap that post is and that they are now settled at IJ ...

Another reason why I feel more at home here, the user that migrated are just so much cooler!
