Knocked Up backlash

If you are -- as I am -- someone who's been getting turned off of products by the way LJ shills them, and you want to let the makers of the products know how much business they're losing as a result of advertising on LJ...

Well, here's the latest place you can write to. Since Knocked Up is a Universal picture, go here and click on the appropriate country from the little "if the FAQ doesn't answer your question" list. That will open a nice feedback form where you can leave your reasons why the LJ advertisements for Knocked Up have actually cost them your business.

Maybe they'll follow Pepsi in pulling out.

Thanks so much for that address. I just sent them this message:

I saw Knocked Up in the theatre and enjoyed it very much. I had hoped that it would join The 40-Year-Old Virgin on the shelf of my DVD library. That will not happen now, for the very simple reason that you have aligned yourself with LiveJournal (LJ), a corporation that has violated its users' trust by forcing us to see advertising -- advertising for your movie. LJ took our money as paid users, promised that we would never see advertising on our pages, and then promptly disregarded that promise. This has angered many, many people. LJ tried this same thing last month with Pepsi; people objected so strongly that Pepsi pulled their ads. I'm sorry that LJ didn't bother to inform you of this before selling you their nifty spot and promising you could reach 13 million users. What they meant to say is that they could, with one post, piss off 13 million users and make many of them angry enough that they would never buy your film. I count myself within this number.
Recently you've been advertising the film Knocked Up with LiveJournal/its parent company Six Apart. You may not be aware, but over the last three months LiveJournal has come under heavy criticism for some of its business practices. It has had several as yet unresolved complaints with the BBB and Pepsi recently pulled an advertising campaign of its own after being made aware of neo-nazi content that LiveJournal was hosting, despite complaints having been made to the Abuse team. Here are two news reports about that case:

Members of LiveJournal's staff have also made comments that pro-anorexia communities, despite being against the stated ToS as promoting harmful practices, and otherwise morally reprehensible, are allowable on the site as "it's not illegal to aspire to be thin". There are also communities advocating the following of child-rearing practices that have been condemned by doctors as negligent, unhealthy and even downright abusive, yet despite many complaints to the Abuse team, again, they have been allowed to remain.

On other occasions, staff have publically mocked users who are upset by the complete lack of customer service, promises that have been broken and general incompetence displayed.

Universal Studios is a respectable company that I'm sure would not want to be associated with communities that encourage teenage girls to starve themselves and give advice on how to do so, nor communities that advocate borderline or outright child abuse. Unfortunately as long as you advertise with LiveJournal, that is what is happening.

Thank you for your time,
Kei
